Around the League 2019-2023 Edition

I think with any other team, for sure. But with an expansion team coming in, with the most important position really being goaltender for them, things are a bit different. You want to have an experienced goalie who will be able to keep you respectable if all else fails. Just about everyone in the hockey world still thinks Price is the best, or top three or whatever. The expansion team has no cap issues and can fit in his contract without making a move. In fact it may help them reach the cap floor. If Montreal can keep up the illusion that Price is still top dog, they should be able to extract something. If not their 1st, then something else of some value. I can't envision a situation where they'd have to give Seattle more to dump Price on them.

Now all of this is just thinking out loud. In reality, would Price accept a trade to an expansion team? Highly unlikely. Would Bergevomit even really entertain trading Price when we all know his goal is to make the playoffs and never rebuild? Also improbable. So Montreal is probably stuck with Pricey boy until some perfect situation magically appears, or, more likely, he retires.

Oh, Seattle might take Price off of Montreal's hands for the reasons you listed. They're not giving up their high 1st to do it though.

+1

I didn't play high level hockey at all (highest level was midget A) and some of the shit I've seen is ridiculous. Hockey culture was a shitty, shitty culture for decades.

When I was 15, I had a coach for the junior team I played for that would regularly tell me to "go out and get that guy out of the game".

I once had a stick incident, where I was suspended, and the coaches and manager told me it is nothing to worry about.
Next time they told me, "just run him in the boards and break his back".
This is to a teenager who actually thought they were gods.
Of coarse I would have done anything they asked .... because I was a kid who had been raised to do as your told lol.

But here is the thing ..... I could here the place erupt and adults in the stands cheering me on, like cheering for a fuxking kid to beat the shit out of another kid, over a damn puck......

the problem is a lot deeper than coaching and hockey management. The problem starts at home.

Yep.. The entire hockey culture was poison for a lot of years. Parents, coaches, administrators, etc. This stuff going on now is the biggest positive thing to happen to hockey culture probably ever.

Lot of the old school hockey folks will call this "being snowflakes", rather than just "recognizing we did damaging shit that's led to mental health issues, substance abuse and suicides and... correcting the behavior"

Funny you mentioned this .....

I got my second broken nose for not "getting" my friend on the Derbys.
Old man belted me because I didnt fight my friend.
Parents are the issue ..... everything else I believe stems from that.

When I asst. coached a team in kitchener, I was expelled because a parent grabbed his lad in the dressing room and hit him. He hit him because he had a bad game.
When the parent left the room, I followed him and shoved him up against the wall.
I told him to never touch anyone like that again in my room.
I was called by the convener, and told that I was no longer associated with the team or league.
I asked what about the incident, and was told that was his kid and not mine.
Last time I ever helped out any team in any sport.
Parent are the biggest problem imho

I think Leaf fans were right about Babcock being the biggest issue.

The jury is still out on that.

Big issue, yes. Biggest issue? Time will tell. Cause they still have very long stretches looking like the previous version, most recently in both Buffalo games. I expect that to change once the new system gets fortified but nothing has been proven on this point as of yet.

Eh? Montreal would have to give up their 1st to move Price...not the other way around. 32 yrs old, significant injur history, more recent history of being a bad starter rather than a good starter and maybe the most toxic contract in the league (though Bobrovsky's is pretty fucking close)
Seabrooks is the worst

Weber, sure. Price...no. Price is pure cap dump with retained salary and additional assets required.

You eat 2.5 mil 31 is an easy trade . There will be demand . Remember the other is looking to dump $ as well

If Lucic and others get traded Price is doable . In a few years 2/3 of money is paid , real dollars are easy for cheap to absorb

You eat 2.5 and you're still trying to pawn off a bottom tier starter (2 of the last 3 years he's been at or around .900) with 8 million in cap hit for 6 more seasons after this one. You would have to take a pretty epic albatross contract back to move him at all, and there aren't really many contracts that have that kind of wingspan.

Lucic got traded for another contract that looked almost as bad as his. I guess maybe you can make a deal with Florida for Bobrovsky. The type of contracts that are bad enough that you'd even consider taking Price back is pretty short. Bobrovsky, Seabrook, Toews, Skinner, Parise, Ryan, JVR, Lee...yeah, that's damn near it. Chicago doesn't need a goalie, Florida's probably contract is a goalie, 3 of the other 4 just signed their contracts and the teams haven't soured on them yet. So Minny. Minny for Parise is the type of shit contract you would have to bring back, and they have Dubnyk.

I just don't see a dance partner. The time trade him was last summer coming off of a good season, not now while he's .900

In a few years 2/3 of money is paid , real dollars are easy for cheap to absorb

So the plan is to pay the lion's share of the real dollars, and then try to move a 10.5 million dollar block of cap hit at 34-35 yrs old?

Dude, we just gave up a 1st to move 1 yr of useless cap hit at 6.25. Enjoy that shit.

parents can also be the biggest asset. I’m sorry for those that fucked up theirs kids and it is rampant but there are also solid parents out there that prepare their children properly.

Once Price goes on a run he’ll be movable without giving up a first. Likely would have to eat salary though.

So mant teams are within 500K of the cap (people act like it's only the Leafs, it's more than half the league). Many of the others are broke and just can't afford the $$$.
