Around the League 2019-2023 Edition

The lesson here being is get banned for doing something.

Lay low for a while.

Make new account.

Promise not to do the thing you were banned for.

Slowly start doing the thing you were banned for.

Obsessively do the thing you were banned for.

Then own it, and flaunt the thing you were banned for.

Because the moderation on these boards is a joke. Its a miracle JH hasn't made a comeback.

If you want heavy moderation there are other boards. I don’t make money off this and really don’t care if I do. We’re all highly opinionated people and I am a libertarian. You be you, it doesn’t matter if I like it or not. I’m a lot of things and no picnic, just ask Mrs Habsy, but I’ll always understand people are different and to condemn is to invite condemnation.

I’ve had enough years on this earth to realize it isn’t worth it. Is Teeds batshit sometimes? Sure. Do I post after drinking or smoking? Yup. Yes it can occasionally turn into a shit show but c’est la vie. Normal sucks. Speaking of, wtf is “normal” anyway.

We’ve been around 14 years now, those that have stuck around know you need a thick skin. If this hurts your sensibilities you can always go find BKerr.

Not much of a work day, so i will respond.

Lay low? From what? Exactly?

What is the THING I was banned for in line number four?

Altair is a Habs poster. Is this you Habsy calling me out?

If it is pm me. This altair goof wouldn't last long in a war.

Altair is my photo negative. All your base belong to us.

I think when someone goes to the extreme on the racist / sexist side you need to boot them, but I much prefer the mod style here where there is very little intervention done unless absolutely necessary. If you think someone is a real life pathological Grandpa Simpson, well just mute him. I mean I think Altair might be one of my least favourite if not least favourite posters here, but at the end of the day, if he's really bothering me, I mute him and I see nothing.

Slippery slope.

Now I remember, there were inflammatory statements being made and he lost his shit before allowing the mods here time to do something.

13 years ago I told the Leafs posters that I won’t interfere with the moderation of this board and I never have. I never will either. This is why you’ve all had votes and bans only come at the request of your own mods.

I wonder how Romanov is being used in the KHL.

Well that's where I'm torn. He's clearly not getting premium usage, and just being a regular defender at his age in the KHL is impressive. Hard to say what his offensive upside is until we see him getting some sort of legit offensive role there.

8 measly points in 76 KHL games but 14 points in 14 World Junior games.

WJHC is a bad measuring stick...since 2000, here's your single tourney points leaders:

Brayden Schenn - 18
Jesse Puljujarvi - 17
Cody Hodgson - 16

Habs drafting has been aggressively, aggressively bad.

Gallagher and Mete out of the middle rounds is nice work, but he's basically lit your top round picks on fire over the last decade.

Nobody should have a job in that organization. Literally nobody. If we omit the Leafs top 10 picks over that same period (Rielly, Kadri, Matthews, Nylander, Marner) and just look at the rest that we drafted, this is our list:

Leivo, Connor Brown, Andreas Johnsson, Gauthier, Engvall, Dermott, Timashov
vs (no omissions, 2009-16, current NHL'ers only)
Gallagher, Beaulieu, Galchenyuk, Lehkonen, JDLR, Sergachev, Mete

I have a pretty hard time making an argument for taking the Habs group. Gallagher is a really nice player, Sergachev probably a future top pairing defender. But if I was playing a game for everything you've got vs everything I've got, today...I probably take that Leaf group.

I legitimately don't know how Bergevin does still.

Yeah, KHL stats are hard to trust in the case of a 18-19 year old dman.

Yeah, the only decent comparable I can find is Orlov

18
Orlov: .17ppg
Romanov: .09ppg

19:
Orlov: .22ppg
Romanov.12ppg

Orlov has turned into a really nice defender in the NHL, but not the offensive producer that he was expected to become. At the same age/same level, he was a step ahead it would appear.

I think Romanov will be a good NHL dman. Will he be a #1 dman how puts up significant offense? I'm leaning no. If he can be a 20 minute a night, 25-30 point scoring guy who plays a good defensive game and lays the body I'll be very happy.

That's still a lot to ask.

From what I can gather, Romanov isn't expected to be a high scorer by many people. His expectations seem to be derived more from his smart defensive and physical play.

My theory is he’s doing exactly what Molson is asking him to do. The ownership group is more about selling real estate and beer using the Habs to do so. Winning? That’s secondary.

Most pro sports owners are average fans with tons of money. They don't know how to build a winning culture -- when they tire of not winning, they simply conclude they hired the wrong GM, and immediately replace them with a GM that was fired by someone else, or was working as an assistant elsewhere.

In the end, they win, because the value of their franchise grows handsomely regardless of what happens on the ice.
