Around the League 2019-2023 Edition

I think it's dumb to resume, but thje pressure will be so great to open up for business again.
Of course, and as I said it's business people making these predictions. They don't understand what's coming in the next few weeks/months. Once they see it, they won't have much of a choice. Seasons are dead.

There's no way the responsible states wouldn't block it, even if players unions allowed their players to be put at risk like that.

Yeah it's based on the presumption that we've already peaked or are close to peaking. Doctors/experts are not involved in these predictions. If they were, they'd laugh at any hope the season gets going again. And they may even laugh at any hope that that following season starts on time. I said weeks ago that the seasons would not finish and I've seen nothing to change that opinion.

It'd be amazing if the world returns to normalcy quick enough that the NBA and NHL could safely resume their seasons within the next month or two. But it strikes me as totally deluded to think that's a reasonable possibility.

The only people pushing that kind of timeline are Trump and his death cult. It's not coming from any expert or informed person.

*Middle of a global pandemic*

Hey, you know what we should do?? Take 46 athletes from the epicenter of the outbreak in the US and their staff and coaches and fly them all over the country in a month.

Problem is Canada has to play along with this and Im pretty confident they wont succumb to pressure from that idiot south of the border

I can't see the NBA going along with it either. They're a very progressive, proactive and competently run league under Adam Silver. No way do they decide to re-open for business before it's safe just because the orange twit in the White House and his mouthpieces are pressuring them to.

Yeah it's all a dream. I zoned out the playoff format talk from a week ago and I'm going to zone out this shit too. Focus should be on hoping we're good by October for the new season.

Yeah, "a dream" is a good way to describe how NHL hockey feels right now. I've lived and breathed Leaf and hockey talk for all of my adult life, even through most of the off-seasons, but I can't even bring myself to care about it at all right now. Even a little bit.

Elite professional sports as entertainment is an awesome luxury to have in your society, but that's all it is, a luxury. If your society doesn't have the big shit sorted out, and we don't right now, then it literally doesn't matter at all.

Yeah I give 0 fucks about sports right now.

You guys are all assuming seasons would resume in crowded arenas for seven game series in several different cities. But these guys are going to get creative. Expect short series or one game winner goes on, and played in one or two cities to closed off stadiums.

NBA will be the first. They will resume in May sometime and NHL will make their announcement of returning soon after.
NHL will be interesting because U.S is pushing to be open for business much more than Canada.

The only thing they will doing in May is finding a shortened supply of global body bags

There isnt a hope in hell the NBA/NBA are resuming their schedule anytime soon , if at all this year

Cancelling the Olympics is the last straw for sports

Public safety is 1-10 in a 10 question survey , not lining the riches pockets right now

USA has a massive problem in the next 60 days

There is no way the medical authorities will reopen anything until 1000% safety is assured

Nope, I wasn't.

Getting 46 players + staff + coaches to fly from the epicenter of this to even one other city would be completely irresponsible. Even without crowds. And that's just two teams.

Yeah, I was going to say. I was actually assuming the opposite. That of course any attempt to resume this season would be without fans.

But even if you were to limit the people present in the building to the bare-bones number of people necessary to conduct the games (players, coaches, training staff, equipment guys, referees, linesmen), I still don't see any reasonable prospect of safely getting the games in anytime soon.
