jesus. seriously? Mamma's holds the crown for worst attempt at pizza I have ever taken a bite of. Truly putrid. Maybe I got unlucky, but it stuck out to the point that I'll never try it again.
 
Its actually illegal to sell used underwear in japan. Doesnt mean they dont exist; but they're likely very rare, if any actually exist at all. But I did see a vending machine with brand new underwear in Osaka.

But the fact that they had to make it a law (I believe in the 90s) makes me wonder what japan was like in the 80s... Economic prosperity, vending machines with products that cost the exact same as they do in 2020, and used panties for sale. A fascinating world I'd imagine.
 
I used to work downtown about 15 years ago close to a Mamma’s pizza and it was really good. Maybe it’s gotten worse since then.

The best pizza I’ve had in Stouffville is actually Pizza Hut. The crust and sauce is pretty good. I tried Nono Crupi’s here recently and was disappointed — too salty. Was hoping to try making my own at home sometime.

Drunk people, cost, convenience.

I used to enjoy pizza nova as my go to chain, but their quality seems to have tanked as well. The way is knowing your local mom and pop joints and ordering from there. I'm entirely good with a decent imitation of a new york style pie at my place in 35 minutes for less than 20 bucks. Usually have to filter through a few bad places to find your local gem though
 
when I was in law school I lived on the same block as a local pizza/donair shop open till 4 am most nights. when walking home from downtown I would be forced to walk past it.

needless to say I earned my loyalty discount during my student days...

funnily enough, I now live a few blocks away from the same spot and it is our go to pizza order. the garlic fingers are great but the pizza is not, brutal sauce, meh crust. but nostalgia runs deep. and a med/med combo runs you $20. versus paying around that much per pizza to get the good stuff (which we also do)
 
What I don't understand is the difference between quality pizza and trash pizza is almost identical in terms of cost. Only really the cheese/toppings would cost more. There really shouldn't be an uptick in cost with even averagely flavored dough and sauce. But these guys manage to make the dough as bland as possible and the sauce as bland and acidic as possible. If I'm spending a couple bucks for a burger, okay I get it. I'm not expecting gourmet beef. I'm getting literal shit and that's okay. But the beauty of pizza and the reason so many pizza shops can survive is that its insanely cheap to make, good quality or not.

Making pizza is extremely easy. Even if you get it wrong it still should be at least passable. It's very very forgiving. You have to actively go out of your way and try to make it taste as bad as Dominos and Pizza Pizza get it. I was almost impressed by how shit dominos was.
 
If pizza pizza can save .50 cents a pound on pepperoni, that adds up quickly. Same with cheese (which is frankly overpriced on this country)
 
I can still remember the soul-crushing disappointment upon discovering that deep-dish pizza did not in fact mean a pizza made like an apple pie with 2 solid inches of cheese, sauce and toppings all swimming around in nice crust.

Liars.

Of course. But my point is they dont have to spend any extra to get passable dough and sauce. I dont care as much about toppings personally.
 
Best pizza in downtown used be the Masssimo's margarita on College. Unfortunately, they're gone. I haven't had a pizza in eons but if they were still around, I'd go for the odd indulge.

I grew up pretty close to Dante’s, and to this day it’s still the best pizza I’ve ever had. Was a shame when the restaurant got sold off and then closed down.

Apparently the original owner’s family have started up a new place, but I haven’t been yet, so don’t know how it compares to the original restaurant.

is that the place on College near Spadina? If so, the quality has been restored.

When the old man (Massimo?) passed away, the son took over and fired everyone, overhauled the menu and did the Restaurant Makeover tv thing.

It bombed. Then place eventually shuttered down, only to be bought by a Vietnamese immigrant who had started working at Massimo’s decades earlier — he had worked himself up from dishwasher to pizza cook but was fired when the son took over.

He kept all of Massimo’s recipes and renamed the place Fresca. I grab a slice there once a year, and it’s quite good in that honest, old school way.

Yeah, it went right in the toilet after the change. I'm down that way often, so will definitely check it out. Thanks for this, as I just wrote it off.

It's at College and Major, I think (just west of Spadina).
 
Tbh the best current slice is from North of Brooklyn pizzeria.

They have a few locations including inside two good bars - Get Well and The Greater Good.
