As happy as I'd be to see Gainey go, replacing him with Gauthier (yet another Nordiques reject who is drawing a paycheque from the Habs) makes me nervous.

Of course, things could be worse: they could give the job to Martin.

My guess is that Pierre McGuire will get the job eventually.

As for timing, it makes sense. If Bob isn't coming back, can't have a lame duck handle the deadline.
If Pierre Gauthier gets the nod on an interim basis, then Price is a goner for sure...and quickly.

That is really a bitch move on Gainey's part. You don't quit mid season unless there is a more than adequate replacement already signed sealed and delivered.

Halak will most certainly be dealt, there is no way a new GM wants to have a Price trade as his first order of operation....

Please let it not be Gauthier who steps in, even on an interim basis...

Gauthier met with Geoff not too long ago about this. Gauthier was pretty clear that he didn't want the job permanently. Maybe that's why Geoff decided to give the job on an interim basis to somebody else.

One thing is for sure: Geoff was thinking about it a long time ago.

WHY?

Any new GM will have no loyalty to Price, and will not have to deal with the blame that will be laid by the meida in fans, whether it's "they never should ahve picked him" or "they handled Price all wrong."

Gainey would have.

I think it makes it MORE likely Price is dealt.

I still think that is a terrible mistake for the long term.... but time will tell if i'm right.

Now that I see that Cloun was legit, I can assure you that the only guy who was holding on to Price was Gainey. The rest of his cronies wanted him out.

Another great player tarnished once they move into management positions.

Disagree. Better he walk away now, then to stay around and make some moves that screw up the long term of the franchsie even more. The worst thing for a team in a salary cap league is to have a lame duck GM trying to save his ass.

Whether it's forced or not, i dont' care. He might not have taken us where we want to go, but Bob is a Habs legend, represented the team well, and stood up for his players. He at least deserves our respect, even if he no longer deserves to run our team.
