Default The Official "I Will Miss" Bob Gainey Thread...hijacked.

Seeing as how there are some out there that felt Bob did a reasonably good job and will want to salute him, I have opened up this thread.

Be respectful. If you have nothing good to say about him, leave it in the other threads.

Over to you ...whoever you are.

I won't. I wasn't fortunate enough to have ever seen him play so this announcement means nothing to me. I'm glad he's gone.

Alright, so Gainey goes down like so many before him, and we all saw it coming thanks to an experienced eye.

I don't think I'd say I'll miss him, but I don't think he did as bad of a job as a lot of people on here dramatically go on about... I agree it was time for him to move on though.

No.....I will miss him...I just wish he had surrounded himself with better people (''cough'' Timmins, Gauthier ''cough'')

But apart from that, he did what he could....let's see what McGuire, JM or Roy will be able to do....

Sundin, Shanahan, Briere, Aucoin, Lapointe, Hull, Vinny.....Gainey tried everytime someone was available...he even made a good offer to Rafalski...

But they all went for less money somewhere else...Sundin never wanted to come here and got ridiculous money from Canucks....Vinny kept saying he'd love to play here but turndown UFA to re-sign with Tampa...

Bob Gainey's era is:
- 4 playoffs run out of 5 seasons.
- One second round of playoffs.
- Conference 1st place.

While Andre Savard manage to miss playoffs 2 seasons out of 3, and Houle who destroyed this franchise.

Yeah, compared to some before him, he was a God. Let's hope whoever replaces him does even better.

Keep in mind that most of what is good about this team: Camallari, Gionta, Pouliot, Price, Halak, O'Byrne, Gorges, Subban...these are Gainey's acquisitions.

That's the problem. You really think that list strikes fear in the eyes of our enemies?

I thought he did a pretty good job all things considered.

I'm sad to see him go.

I can't help but feel that the Gainey haters will revise their position 2 or 3 years hence when we are mired in an even worse situation than we are now. Bob brought respectability and calm to a position that had for too long been the domain of fools (or Houles as the case may be).

Who do you all think is going to come around and do a better job??

The Lou Lamarellos and Kent Hollands of this world are an extremely rare commodity. I sincerely believe that Gainey was a cut above the rest and we (as is so often the case in this damned city) turned on him as some colossal moron.

As has been the case and as will be the case, we reap what we sow...

You are correct. But as an organization you can't stop striving to get that commodity working for you.

They only hand out one Stanley Cup every year. The other 29 teams are losers.

We certainly make more money than when he took over in 2003, our team rose but has fallen back.

We are a respected organization again which is good. A cornerstone of the NHL again, which is great.

He was too cautious, losing Iginla for Nieuwendyk took his balls big time.

Will there ever be an official "I will miss XPOFAN" created?
