Charlotte is probably going to need a few more AHL vets before it's all said and done. That roster took a heck of a hit over the summer.
Yup ... nice to have him locked in on an ELC. He'll head back to Barrie relatively soon, but I've heard good things about his camp so he's off to a good start. I'm told that the Canes anticipate Suzuki playing two more years in the OHL before shifting to the pro game.Suzuki signed his entry level contract. He gets $832,500 in the NHL, $70,000 in the AHL and a signing bonus of $277,500.

Interesting that several former Checkers who left for "greener pastures and bigger opportunities" ended up on waivers today ... Patrick Brown, Andrew Poturlaski and Dan Renouf. I really thought Brown blew it by moving on. He could have been in good shape to play the Kegger role for this club this season and would have still been Captain in Charlotte. The other two were out of chances here anyway, more than likely.
Absolutely. And the the quantity and quality of the prospects in Carolina's system, this summer was a good time for a churn.NOne of those guys were anything more than fill-ins, never were going to be permanent on the roster. Very serviceable foot soldiers and very responsible. McKegg had some good outings and terrific goals, which were lagniappe. Never, ever do I fault a guy going to get more money-- unless, perhaps, it's when a prized asset signs an offer sheet to play in MTL, but other than that, there is life after hockey.
Wait, did we say "Kochetkov"? I'm sure we meant to say "Melnichuk".
