2019-20 Hurricanes Prospects and Checkers Thread

Rees is already posting career high numbers, and he's played all of 17 games. The kid has either taken the biggest of leaps forward in his development or is on one of the most epic sustained hot streaks of all time.

Corey Pronman, who is The Athletic’s resident prospects guru, says that Rees would be drafted higher in a 2019 Dradt re-do. He had ranked the Canes draft in the top 5 in the immediate aftermath.

With the World Juniors coming up, camp rosters are being released. Anttoni Honka, Lenni Killinen and Patrik Puistola are on Finland’s roster.

Rees will get a look for Canada, but Suzuki is still being brought back slowly after they eye injury. Other than that, Drury will probably be on the US roster and I think that will probably be it for Canes prospects at WJC camps.

Rees has former NHL rearguard Derian Hatcher as his coach in Sarnia and by all accounts, Rees has some real sandpaper to his game to go along with that offense so he seems to be developing nicely.

Rees is not on Canada’s roster.

Umm ... ok, but the kid's molten lava hot. Knock yourselves out, Canada.

BTW, their selection process for these tournaments is stupidly political. They aren't always able to shift gears and involve guys who weren't on the radar long enough to build support.

So that is a really terrible hit but how did Puistola completely not see that coming? Its not like the guy appears out of thin air or skated half the rink, he was at the circle when Puistola took the puck. I know the rinks are bigger but he would get killed in the NHL with that lack of awareness. Bad hit, cheap head shot, but come on Puistola, you need to have some level of awareness out there.

Checkers last week:

Nov 26 Cleveland L 3-1 Forsberg with the loss. Cavan Fitzgerald with the goal.

Nov 27 Cleveland W 5-2 Ned with the win. Wood, Lorentz, Gauthier, Kuokkanen and Bean with the goals

Nov 30 Providence L 4-1 Forsberg with the loss. Hunter Shinkaruk with the goal

Dec 1 Providence L 4-0 Ned with the loss.

3 road games this week. Wed @Syracuse and then Fri and Sat @Rochester. Checkers are now dead last in their division.

Cheap head shot on Puistola to be sure, but other that the high contact point, that's a legit hit. Of course, it's Europe so any contact with the head is verboten ... but look out for yourself out there kid.

Yep, looked like the puck was on his stick. As the Department of Player Safety would say, he was eligible to be checked.

Jukurit says that Puistola was released from the hospital and is doing “relatively well considering the situation”.

If that same hit happened on the IIHF's watch at the World Junior tournament, it's safe to say that would have been a full tournament ban by Fasel and his gang.

Cade Webber hasn’t played since 11/9 and there is no information on the BCHL or Penticton websites.

A quick search indicates that the last Twitter blurbs on Webber are from mid-November indicating that he's injured. No specifics, but it tracks.

Jack Drury was invited to the US WJC camp, not a surprise since he played last year. Domenick Bokk is in Germany’s camp too, so with the 3 Finns, that’s 5, although Puistola may miss due to injury. Jamieson Rees should have been the 6th. He’s 9th in the OHL with 44 points in 23 games.

Tieksola will be playing for Karpat in Liiga tomorrow. There really isn’t anything left to prove on their U20 team.
