He may have retracted his specific statement, but that 100% does not mean that the medical community isn't increasingly seeing lingering issues with myocarditis linked to Covid and reacting accordingly ... because they are. All this stuff is developing quickly and there simply hasn't been time to allow for the kind of in depth case studies to back up various positions with regards to the virus and its impacts. The new information over the weekend is a good example. Docs have been using corticosteroids in an effort to treat Covid symptoms for a while now, but we're only just starting to see enough serious study results to back up the effectiveness of those treatments. While the study results got big happy headlines over the weekend, it won't have much impact on treatment going forward because it's a thing most Docs were already doing. Meanwhile the online keyboard warriors are confused because they dismissed steroids long ago ... largely because they're looking for a magic bullet that doesn't exist. Wait until they find out that there's no such thing as a 100% effective vaccine for basically anything.

That's the thing with these big info swings online ... we somehow take one guy's statement that's a bit off course, or simply too early in the process to verify and use it to dismiss what eventually can become valid information later on. Likewise we'll take something that's just a little bit off kilter as gospel and gear up for a crusade. And it all depends on our point of view or our political positions. Fun times.

here at Kitty Hawk WalMart has very few fishing lures for sale . And this is prime fishing season here. I guess that's another CV shortage. A small shop had plenty of lures

That’s been a nationwide thing with fishing tackle. Try the local shops. Seem to be better about having stuff than the big box stores lately. Hope you catch some. Seeing reports of nice drum being caught in the surf.

K&W closing their cafeteria in Cameron Village permanently yesterday feels like an assault on people of a certain age. The chain operator also closed a bunch of other NC locations as well.

The inevitable next step, K&W filed for bankruptcy protection.

Maybe one day the USGA will realize that we have other courses in the State aside from No 2, Pine Needles and Quail Hollow ... but that's probably a whole other conversation. For the record, I don't play anymore, so Pine Needles can officially claim the title of my favorite golf course in NC. If you play and haven't been down there .... get on it.

When they have big events like the Amateurs, they use other courses at Pinehurst for early rounds. The PGA Tour uses Sedgefield in Greensboro and TPC Wakefield for whatever the lower level tour is called this week and the seniors use Preston.

The USGA committed to increasing the number of events in the state, so there could be lower-level events like the Mid-Am and Senior Am played elsewhere...Raleigh Country Club (a Donald Ross design), Treyburn, etc. They’ve used River Landing in Wallace for US Open qualifying.

Yeah ... I'm talking big ticket USGA events, which have largely been stuck in the Pinehurst rut. Nothing wrong with Nos 2, 4 and 8 for the men and Pine Needles for the ladies but there's a lot of other options. I'd also like to see the ladies get a whack at No 2 at some point.

The ladies played the 2014 Open on #2, the week after the men did. I was there for the final round of the men’s open, standing at the rope line behind the first green for a bit. A group of 5-6 women rolled by inside the ropes and I looked for a marshal before realizing that 2 of the women were Michelle Wie (who won that week) and Christie Kerr.

As part of today’s announcement, the USGA awarded the men’s Open to Pinehurst in 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047

Also Quail Hollow, who will host the PGA again in 2025, in addition to the Wells Fargo. Which reminds me that the PGA was at Tanglewood in Clemmons in the '70s (Trevino won) in a one-and-done but I haven't been there in 25 years and have no idea how it's been kept up.

Wakefield is no longer a TPC. That arrangement expired a couple of years ago and was not renewed.

I've followed the NHC forecasts for almost as long as they've been on the internet. It's really rare to see a tropical wave assigned development potential while it's still over Africa, and this is the first time I've ever seen one with a moderate chance of development. Plus it's early September and we're already up to R in the names.

Only 4 names left...Sally, Teddy, Vicky and Wilfred, before the names revert to the Greek alphabet. We went 6 deep into the alphabet in 2005 and 5 names were retired; Dennis, Katrina, Rita (the previous earliest R named storm), Stan and Wilma. That wave coming off the African continent will probably be Sally and they’re already predicting that we’ll need to keep our eyes on that one.

I've got family down at Bermuda Run (right next door) and I've been told that Tanglewood remains a championship calibre course.

The Championship course at Tanglewood was remodeled in 2018. It wouldn’t surprise me if the USGA put some events there; they have fallen back in love with public courses, like Bethpage Black and Chambers Bay, and it has a championship pedigree, having hosted the 1974 PGA Championship.

2047 on tap for Pinehurst? Golf may not exist then. Courses are closing all over and kids are not playing very much compare to the past. Or it might just be for rich folks. Which is about the same as now.

Is there a problem in awarding a golf tournament 27 years in the future? ;)

In the non-Pinehurst category, the Open has been awarded through 2027. Torrey Pines, another public course, hosts its 2nd Open, having previously hosted in 2008.

The PGA Championship has been awarded through 2031. It returns to Quail Hollow in 2025.

ACC BB coaches all voted that every team should be in the NCAA tourney. I guess the first 3-4 rounds would be held on campuses. Don't think it will happen

I like JetBlue but the only nonstops from RDU were JFK, Boston and Ft. Lauderdale. Maybe the LA flight will create a price war with American and Delta.
