2020 NHL Entry Draft

Love how people always forget about defense.

Basketball is a team sport and like any other sport they have their elite players. LeBron can score and defend but let's see him defend 5 guys alone.

It's a team game.

its a team game when you 2 have 2 superstars playing team D

Ask Orlando , Chicago , Sacramento , Detroit , and 15 other teams how the last 5-10 years have gone playing team D with 30-35 wins

Would that be like asking the Coyotes, Panthers, Sharks, Canucks, Jets or the Jaguars, Bucs, Jets, Dolphins etc?

You focus on one aspect of the game. It is a team game. Having the elite player is the bonus and yes, generational players like LeBron can have that effect.

yep

you need the stars though - but that is true of every team sport

i mean there is a reason the lakers sucked last year even with lebron

NBA stars plays 75% of the court time, compared to about 33% for NHL star forwards (40% for defense).

One guy can make a big difference, but to truly make an impact you need to surround him with 2-3 talented players.

You are so fucking wrong....all you need is one superstar player like Price, and you are guaranteed to win multiple championships

Its a terrible comparison to the NBA Habsy

You have no competitive team in the NBA if you dont have a top tier stud and at least 1 star type player to carry the load

Your 3 other starters are quality role players ......thats your team

1-2 key bench players and the rest scratch their balls on the bench most nights

However one Lebron is the difference between a second seed and 10th and 30 wins

There is no comparison in any other team sport

The great Patriots need 15-20 players to win titles , Brady is useless if his O line doesnt protect him and gets sacked 10 times a game

The Sharks , Blues , Jets etc in the NHL have been competitive for years without a Sid or CMD on their roster

Its a total team effort to win a cup , 1-2 players cant carry the load .....impossible

Competitive is not what is being discussed. Championships.

Blues won as a team led by 5-7 solid players and a group that busted their ass

Raptors couldnt win shit until Jesus Leonard arrived

DD and Lowry was only enough for 1 to 2 rounds

Pacers , Trailblazers , Jazz and others have been very good for years , they cant win a title without a top tier dog

Those are the Blues and Sharks of the NBA , they could be in the finals in a hockey system and contend for years

"NBA is about individual skill , will never change "

is just wrong

do not think anybody is arguing that stars have a bigger impact in the NBA then hockey, soccer, baseball, football, etc

Nope, not arguing that in the least however this portrayal of Basketball as a one-two man show is just incorrect imo.

yep

lets all team sports the better players you have the better your chances

The difference, of course, is that you can feed your superstar the ball anytime you want in basketball. Pretty big advantage, especially in the last minute of play when so many games get decided.

obviously, championship teams need a strong supporting cast, but nothing like the NHL where you also need your 3rd liners not to suck. There are no 3rd liners in basketball

Raptors were great this year sans Leonard and they have a decent shot at winning it all despite lacking that super elite player. Should be fun...

So if there weren't four other guys the superstar would be just as effective?

Bron carried a bunch of stiffs to 6 games in the finals with no Kyrie and Love

Take away the greek freak , keep the other 4 starters and add a decent starter they will be hard pressed to win 35 games

Bron leaves Cleveland they go from a top 5 record to the first pick in the draft , no other sport has this single player dominance

Isles lose JT and they dont miss a beat , actually are a better team .

Its not JT`s fault , its more a team structured system and game .

CMD and Leon , 2 top 5 players in hockey together can barely put Edmonton in the playoffs

Habsy , the NBA is a totally different landscape to other team sports .

Thats why only 11 teams have won the title in 40 years and 3-4 have nearly half

Pistons were the only team to win without a top tier stud, but they had 5 star type starters and arguably the best D of all time

The only other sport that has a bigger impact than one individual star player in basketball is a starting pitcher in baseball.

You just happen to play against a guy who's on, there might be nothing you could do.

The difference is that the pitcher plays once every 5 or 6 days.

Basketball is a team game, sure, but it's crazy that one player (LeBron) can be the difference between being in the finals and being last in the league. It also speaks to his greatness.

Agreed.

Show me a recent example of the best player in hockey, baseball, football having the same impact...McDavid, Trout, Rodgers (arguably the best QB in past decade, until Mahomes came) ?

There is no example and never will be like the NBA

A healthy Mahomes may go down as a top 3 QB of all time , but he is nothing without an effective O line and D line on the defensive end

You need D backs stopping touchdowns , and special teams making plays

Its a chess match in the NFL based on everyone playing the right scheme and strategy and controlled by your coaching staff

You're describing Russell Wilson last year. Carried his team in the playoffs but short of a championship.
