GDT #58: Feb 13, 2020 - Stars @ Leafs

over that same stretch:

#28 WSH .884sv%, .538pts% (1pt over .500)
#29 STL .880sv%, .538pts% (1pt over .500)
#30 TOR .879sv%, .500pts%

Keefe says the trend right now is that the better they play defensively, the worse they play offensively. Still searching for the winning balance.

If limiting the shot quality isn’t doing anything, which it isn’t with the goaltending we’re getting, then why bother limiting the offence?

I politely disagree with Keefe's assessment of tonight's game. We generated a lot of good chances. This easily could have been one of those 4-5 goal games. They had an elite goalie in net who stopped most of what he saw.

The first period was uninspiring, but we looked a lot like the team full of offensive weaponry we are in the 2nd and 3rd.

With Keefe and Rielly (23gp):
CF/60
: 62.53 (3rd)
CA/60: 53.17(10th)
CF%: 54.05 (6th)
xGF/60: 2.75 (2nd),
xGA/60: 2.19 (10th)
xGF%: 55.60 (3rd)
w/o Rielly (12gp):
CF/60
: 58.62 (10th)
CA/60: 55.28 (15th)
CF%: 51.47 (12th)
xGF/60: 2.53 (3rd),
xGA/60: 2.34 (17th)
xGF%: 51.99 (10th)

They miss Rielly. They are significantly worse offensively and defensively without him. He's probably been a more impactfull loss than any of Tavares, Marner or Freddy this year.

He is criminally underrated. Especially defensively.
