He's an average skater. That's his biggest issue and I'm not sure he'll ever be able to overcome that to be an elite offensive player.
I honestly never expected him to be an elite offensive player. I thought, and still think, his upside is a 60-70pts two-way center.

Unacceptable how 8 years later , we are still trying to find ourselves ....... all on this regime

By now we should have had at least 4 building blocks like a McAvoy ,Pasta, Petersson , Boeser , Chabot etc... developed
3 first place finish and a conference finals in the first 5 years will do that to you. 4 25th+ first round picks is a tough way to build a future.

You just can't rebuild with a Carey Price in his prime. We needed to get rid of him back then, and we still do now.

Or when you do a “reboot” need set yourself up with 3-first rounders & early 2nd in a deep & talented draft - see Bruins in 2015. And all they have to show is DeBrusk & Carlo.

Shea Theodore and Aho instead of McCarron & Juulsen covers up a lot of blemishes but that’s the hindsight game.

That was a mind boggling shitty draft for them....but the previous year they chose Pastrnak over Nikita so that saved their ass.

Lucky for the rest of the league they missed out on Barzal and Connor in 2015

3 missed playoffs and maybe 4 this year , is not acceptable

Where are our building blocks , too many missed components at the draft table

Plenty of players in the 20`s and lower were there to be had or move up to get one and not take Tinordi

Not adding around Price is the problem and now we are stuck with a bubble team with very few assets to work with for the next 4 years

We didn`t get enough ROI on our vets to build for the future and the patch job will continue til the inevitable rebuild is upon us

Poor Juulsen, he was looking good before getting 2 pucks in the face in 20 minutes.

McCarron wasn't much hindsight, everybody knew it was a bad pick.

Even if Juulsen was healthy he was not a 1st round caliber player...some names that came after him in that draft would look pretty good on the Habs at the moment including a certain Sebastian Aho or Anthony Beauvillier

Isn't it what you wanted though? Miss the playoffs a bunch of times and build the prospect pool? :)

There was plenty of mistakes made. The team got too good too quickly and management started to believe in it despite a flawed roster. We didn't have the assets to improve the team to a contender. No prospects in the pipeline and many bad contracts to unload. Hard to admit for them that it was impossible to build a contender at the time around Price, Max and Subban but there were just too many holes with no internal help.

We should have unloaded the vets back then.

He was shaping up to be a solid top 4 defenseman, which is totally worthy of a 26th overall pick. It's not like Aho and Beauvillier were sure things either, there is a lot of luck involved on those late picks.

Sure lottery picks are encouraging

But where are our building blocks ?

KK , Nick and CC are too young and will need til 2022-2023 before they are hopefully legit

From 2013 to 2017 ....a total mess ....we needed assets now in that 21-24 range

JD and MD are secondary guys

Our top 9 has only KK and a plug in LEK as drafted players ...... a joke

Price, Max and Subban were 24 and younger ..many GM`s don't this start plus your had the # 3 pick

It`s year 8.......you have a worse starting base ........brutal

Bergevin , don't care what went on 20-30 years ago
Try 45-years and counting....

Habs have sucked at 1st round selections since the Bob Gainey draft....1973 - Koivu & Price being the only exceptions, who’ve gone on to enjoy long successful careers

2008-2015 was a mess, that's why we are where we are. Can't go back in time and fix it. Drafting started getting better from 2016, and it's going to take a few years until those guys get in the 21-24 range.

The bulk of the team is 27 years old or younger (13 regulars), it's not like we have a team of veterans. We just have to keep focusing on drafting better, and do a few smart trades. There is no quick fix.

We're in better shape than we were 8 years ago IMO.
