No, it doesn't free up $3.4M. It frees up $900k. Send him down to Laval, fine, but he'll still count as $2.5M against the cap.

Byron isn't terrible, but he's definitely overpaid.

Not to mention the team just named Byron as an alternate captain, so he's definitely not going anywhere.

Unlikely. RH became a solid top 4 d-man for over a decade after Gainey’s waiver screw up. Hard to see Juulsen as a top 4.

I think he can be but needs lots of AHL level playing time this year - not sure he’ll get any TOI in Fla.

Not quite.

If you claim a player off waivers, the player has to stick in the NHL. We would need to put him on waivers again before being able to send him to the minors.
