OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Bit disappointing to hear this.

High as balls on a pile of amphetamines & morphine while also on anti-depressants, and dangerously stunt-flying his plane.

Yeah, that is disappointing. Not really much different than the Marlins pitcher who got loaded, decided to drive his boat at high speeds at night and slammed into a jetty. Can’t really say that either of them didn’t earn their fate.

The only plus is that Halladay didn’t take anyone else to the grave with him.

Pretty sure Jose Fernandez was a passenger on a friend's boat who was driving. They were drinking and possibly doing coke as well (can't remember the exact details) but still tragic.

Bit disappointing to hear this.
Talk about stupid risks. He was still very young and had everything. Why the hell is he doing that?

Feels weird to say, but we have footage of actual real live baseball here!! Fun breakdown video of a game from Taiwan, complete with empty stands:

MLB has finally released its findings re: the Red Sox sign stealing scandal, looks pretty minor and much less egregious than the Astros.

Major League Baseball on Wednesday suspended Boston Red Sox video replay system operator J.T. Watkins without pay for one year and stripped the team of its second-round pick this year after completing its investigation into allegations the team illegally stole signs during the 2018 season.

Manager Alex Cora is suspended for the 2020 season but only for his role in the Astros' sign-stealing case, when he was the bench coach for Houston, as commissioner Rob Manfred wrote in his report that he does not believe Cora was aware of Watkins' actions.

Manfred wrote in his report that Watkins "on at least some occasions during the 2018 regular season, utilized the game feeds in the replay room, in violation of MLB regulations, to revise sign sequence information that he had permissibly provided to players prior to the game," but his actions, unlike the Astros' scheme, "was farm more limited in scope and impact."

Mayo's latest mock has us taking Nick Gonzales at #5

A july 1 opening day seems like looney tunes thinking. Ignore the virus away is becoming a more popular approach, apparently

All of Tork, Martin, Gonzo, Lacy and Hancock look studly. We'll get one barring cheap bean counting

Makes sense to plan, but there can't be a season. Even if there is a lull in July and they can start it, how are they going to be playing deep into October like they do every other year.

It would be one thing to plan a 2-month long super-tournament or something, but imagine starting up for two months and then having to shut it down again when cases spike? Better to wait until 2021.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Fans will be allowed to enter baseball stadiums for games in Taiwan for the first time this season as part of a gradual easing of restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The China Professional Baseball League said up to 1,000 people would be permitted to enter ballparks Friday after an agreement between the league and Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center.

Other baseball leagues around the world were still suspended last month when games began in Taiwan in empty stadiums. South Korea's league commenced this week, also without fans in the stands.

Major League Baseball expects to offer a return-to-play proposal to the MLB Players Association within a week, as teams have begun to encourage players to prepare for a "spring" training that could begin in mid-June and a season that could start in early July, sources familiar with the discussions told ESPN.

Although a significant number of hurdles remain and some industry leaders believe June and July return dates are overly optimistic, ownership's approval of a plan and dialogue about specifics with the union would mark two vital steps toward baseball's return from a season so far delayed six weeks by the coronavirus pandemic.

General managers and managers from at least a dozen teams have reached out to players to suggest that they ramp up baseball activities, those familiar with the conversations -- including executives, players and agents -- told ESPN. Some teams have suggested that players prepare for a spring training that could begin as early as June 10 and a season that could begin July 1, dates first suggested publicly by former player Trevor Plouffe. Other teams, sources said, are being more general in their timetables, understanding the complications that hard dates can cause and wanting instead to nudge players toward being in game shape.

Already, dozens of players are working out at team facilities around the country, according to sources, and the possibility of holding a three- or four-week spring training at teams' home stadiums appeals to a number of stakeholders. After entertaining the ideas of quarantining all players in Arizona or using three- or five-city hubs to hold games, there is momentum toward the league trying to play games in home stadiums, sources said.
