The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

1. Good that they're keeping his games now
2. Even better that he's admitting he hasn't been good enough in the playoffs

Shoresy practicing on the 4th line today. Spezza may be a healthy scratch. It begins.

I don't hate it. I would have preferred to give Spezza a shot for the first dozen or so games just to get a look at him. But Shore is a damn good player so it's hard to complain too much.

Plus Spezza is old, probably a good idea to not have him play every game. Still would prefer him playing though but oh well.

I'm not super attached to Spezza specifically, but it's the basic philosophy of this move I hate.

Dubas wants four lines with as much skill as possible, including his fourth line. Whereas Babcock's philosophy is that the fourth line must be populated by "safe", low-event slugs with as little talent and creativity as possible.

Once again, this is Babcock sticking his finger in Dubas's eye and going with his own tired philosophy of team-building.

Oh yeah I don't disagree with that.

nah, Shore is and always has been an advanced stats darling, Spezza is not.

Dubas for sure wants Shore in the lineup I think. In his mind Shore is likely ahead of all these other 4th line contenders. I think he'd want Shore in the starting lineup even when Hyman gets back. Not only for his big impact play at even strength, but for his PK ability too.

Myself I had Spezza on the outside looking in coming into the camp - though to his credit he outplayed guys I had ahead of him like Agostino and Aberg so clearly deserves to be here. I never expected more than a 4th line W / PP specialist this year, and I doubt Dubas did either.

IImo for Dubas the question isn't Shore vs. Spezza at all. It's Spezza vs Goat or Tima that might be where he disagrees (thought then again, iirc dubas did like Goat in the AHL even if his NHl numbers are terrible). And Goat also was legit good in preseason so who knows, maybe he can still make it.

Yeah it may be more likely that Spezza and Timashov rotate in and out of the lineup. Shore is exactly what Babs thought Lindholm was. And babs fucking loved that guy. Can you imagine how much he'll love an actually good version of him?

Probably stings a bit to miss the opener, but the reality is Spezza ain't that good anymore. And I'm sure he knew he wouldn't be playing every night on a team like this, even on the 4th line.

I wouldn't worry about hurting his feelings too much. He knew the deal when he signed, he's a bench/depth guy chasing a ring.

And despite what the twitter line rushes say, I hope/expect that Shore will be the guy mostly lining up at C tonight, not Goat. Goat has his best chance to be effective as a winger, imo, where he doesn't have to think as much.

This should turbo the propellers on propellerheads. No biggie. I'd prefer to see Spezza over Shore or Goat but que sera. I look forward to seeing what Shore can do.

Keeps Spaz away from the Ottawa beat reporters. He probably asked for the extra reps.

Babs says Spezza needs to work on his PK game and will play next game.

Some people (particularly in the media) need to calm down.
