Its Dreger but he said if AP walks Vegas and the Leafs are at the top of his list

Good way to drive your up your payday

I don't think it really means anything either way.

Like usual, Dreger's either just making shit up out of thin air, or the player's agent has told him the story that he thinks will best drive up his player's value, and Dreger's parroting that information back to the public.

That's the key. He can't hold us up for $8M.

He'd have to take $7M, and even then it's tough. $6.5M would be the dream, 5 year deal.

He would need to really want to come home and win.

I think the bigger issue for me is the term. I would probably be okay with 4 x $7m. But that is the max term I would do. I would do a higher AAV on a shorter term but don't think we can fit it in our cap structure.

And even 4 x $7m would be a pretty sweet home town discount you gotta think.

Which makes me realize I want no part of paying market value for Pietro. Unless the flat cap has dramatically reset the market...

He's going to probably value term even more than aav. You're probably looking at 7 years 49 million if lucky.

I mean, he should be going for way more than that.

He will be 31 in january so i doubt he takes anything shorter than 5 years.

Wonder if he would take heavily front loaded deal of 7x6 (essentially a 5x8 deal with the last 2 years he is unlikely to play at $1M). The ability to pay big signing bonuses is something we still have over other teams.

Where are we getting these numbers?

Karlsson just signed for 8 x $11.5 last year. Josi 8 x $9.1.

Yeah Pietro will get 7x8 offers at the very least. If he's really nice to Toronto he'll maybe accept 7x7 but I wouldn't expect any less on aav or term. Even 7x7 is pushing it.

Hpe many teams can afford to front load a contract? I know most hockey players dont understand the time value of money but thats a big asset the leafs can throw

If he was going to take 7x$8 he would have resigned a year ago.

the rumour was the Blues we’re trying to get him for the OEL contract.

leafs just can’t afford to be in on him.
