Borderline 2nd liner.

Of course I never guessed our coach would hard match him against the best line in hockey.
that was your worst take ever...HOF bad...but equal props for not hiding from it.

Pleks could barely crack the Habs lineup and we had ZERO talent down the middle.

He was literally your #1C. Both that year you traded him when you sucked and the year before when you finished 1st.

he worked his way down to the 4th line before being traded. Penalty kill specialist

The numbers don't add up to me. Otherwise, yeah I think it would be a no brainer that they'd sign him. Too bad they signed that Tavares fella.

It’s an interesting question. Hindsight being 20/20, would you rather have Tavares & Kerfoot, or Kadri and Pietrangelo?

But yeah, I just don’t see how the numbers would work for Pietrangelo here at this point.

Can't really build your team on the hopes that a particular player becomes a UFA one year and is actually interested in signing for you. It's all hindsight stuff in fairness. It's really hard to turn down a Tavares so I don't blame the nerd. Just not confident it was the right play.

Yeah, we never know who will be available. It seems like he might leave because of that Faulk trade and signing, which no one understands or could see coming.

The one big advantage the Leafs have is, they'll put ridiculous $$$ in your account the day you sign. So that would entice him to sign for a little less.

But the odds of him accepting less than 7 years and less than 8 mil seem pretty low to me. The best they could do, in a complete miracle scenario, is maybe 7x7 if he really wants to play for Toronto. I don't think it'll work.

Yeah, 7 million is best case scenario and that would only be because it comes with the highest signing bonuses and maybe the offers aren't as high as anticipated due to COVID

He has to take like a 1 year $5 million Kariya/Selanne Avs type deal for it to really work and be able to ice a full roster. To give another dman $8+ mill they'll have to move Nylander or Marner. Or maybe Rielly because they won't be able to resign him.

Thing is, I think we can't really delete any more scoring right now.

I wouldn't trade away what Nylander brings for Pietrangelo. Not without having a replacement for Nylander.

Any deal we do will see lesser pieces go. Frankly, something involving Freddy that frees up $3M or so seems the most likely scenario to unfold. They're not trading an established D to add Pietrangelo. And I doubt they're breaking up the big 4. It would be something else, and given that Freddy is gone in a year anyway, and that it's a goalie palooza out there, I have to think that's where the space will come from.

By all accounts the offers the Leafs have been getting for Willy have been worse than the offers they got for Kapanen. We have to remember that these are really stupid human beings that are in charge of NHL teams. I don't think Willy has the trade value we may think he has. So you obviously keep him at all costs.
