OT: American Politics

and sure....understanding three 'states' of jesus is easy... now show me the scripture that explains it...that is where things get messy

the problem is the 'proof'

in the bible in one passage he is god, then 2 lines later he is jesus, then on the next page he is the holy spirit

Simple, God has always been there, he became flesh in Jesus of Nazareth who then died for Jays sins, and then rose as the Holy Spirit.

Pretty simple concept.

While I have no use for Romney, aren't people stretching when they now complain how he was a bully in school? I mean for God's sake, that happened 50 years ago.

Yeah, I saw that story, and thought it was dumb.

There are no shortage of things to criticize him for now, no need to go back into his prep school days.

not much of a sacrifice Jesus made, IMO, considering he was only down here on a whim anyways.

aren't people always stretching? I agree with you. If I got caught for what I did in school, I would have been in jail. :p Hey, I am an old hippie.

God didn't have a mother. He's talking about Mary, who was the mother of Jesus, not God.

if i gave you a theology lesson to explain to you why you're wrong here, you'd probably be bored and slam me for being a religious fanatic. for starters, recite "hail mary" to yourself a couple of times to see why you're wrong. the virgin mary is the "mother of god".

Catholic worship borders on polytheism in my opinion and as a Presbyterian that is not acceptable. Their God worship of Mary is even stranger.

There's only God. No spirit or Jesus hyphenated God crap.

oh boy. are you serious with this $hit?! here's lefty "tolerance" on display again.

one of the foundational, most sacred tenets of the catholic church, the holy trinity, is "polytheism" and "hyphenated god crap" according to you. pathetic. i defy you to go into a madrassa and call one of their most sacred religious beliefs "__________ god crap".

no, you're "tolerant" if you support any consenting adults having the same rights as all others.

you're "intolerant" if you support some having rights, but not others.

you're avoiding the point entirely. you aren't "tolerant" if you feel you can crudely insult a major religion's core beliefs. being "tolerant" of modern secular society's (apparently) greatest religion, acceptance of gay marriage, does not absolve you of being grossly intolerant of other people.

I think this pretty much sums up the argument FOR gay marriage .....even if it is animated! please watch!!

no offense KB, I am just not a religious person (although I was years ago). I believe I *evolved* because I had a hard time wrapping my mind around thinking, because I was Christian, we were better then everyone else and the only people God approved of, which leads to a lot of hypocrisy. Today, I believe God is love, period. Very simple. All Jesus really wanted was for us to love God with all our hearts and do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. That message truly got lost along the way.

ST says this argument should not be about religion. I beg to differ. Religion is precisely why Amendment One passed in North Carolina.

i repeat that most of my arguments against gay marriage are sociological, not religious.

Lost in all this debate is how poorly Obama has handled this issue. He should have never backtracked on his claim to support gay-marriage in 2008.

Stick to your convictions.

this. i would have had a LOT more respect for hopeychange if he would have just come out right away in 2008 and said what we all figured he really believed on this issue- that he was for gay marriage. to duck the question and then come out at this stage now after he was basically "outed" by his VP on the issue is weaselly, and confirms what most of us knew all along about him- he isn't a principled leader.
