Taking a good picture is a lot like wearing a suit well. You can always tell when certain people are uncomfortable being photographed/wearing it well.

Smile big. Or, if you don't want to smile, give your version of blue steel. Work it a bit. strut. don't take it seriously. think of a cool celebrity pic and imitate it.

but don't ever take a photo worrying about yourself not photographing well.

Yep, I've always been told I photograph well... and I think it's cause I just have a good time. I never worry about how it's going to look. If I look stupid them all the better. You have a good photo to laugh at for years.
