Out of Town Scoreboard

Okay explode through was probably the wrong word... but he did appear to give it a bit extra.
And "even Shanahan said" carries exactly 0.0 weight. Virtually no one on this board ever agrees with him.

Okay, **** Shanahan. By analysing the video you can clearly see that Kadri doesn't see Backstrom until contact, he was tracking the puck to the net area.

So the Sens are a bottom-5 team in hockey.

yikes.

What will it take for us to get Spezza as a rental?

Bozak, Gauthier, Finn. get it done.

He's a Leaf. He scores. He ****ed up. Suspension worthy. Quit your WHINGING!

Again, we have players who have thrown full, intentional hits on goalies and not received suspensions. The suspension is over, it should have never happened, but whatever it's done now.

Kovalchuk Trade:

1. J.Oduya - 28yr old good 2nd pair Dman
2. N.Bergfors - 22yr old #23 overall pick, decent AHL stats, in the midst of a 2nd lineish rookie season
3. P.Cormier - 19yr old #54 overall pick, profiled as a potential bottom six centre
4. 1st round pick - looked to be in the 20-25 range.

Leafs' match for Spezza:

1. T.Bozak - 28yr old good 2nd line C
2. P.Holland - 22yr old #15 overall pick, good AHL stats, in the midst of a 3rd lineish rookie season
3. F.Gauthier - 18yr old #21 overall pick, profiles as a potential bottom six centre
4. 1st round pick - looks to be in the 20-25 range

I feel like you're kind of missing the point here though, HP.

If Shanahan says Kadri explodes into the hit and then suspends him three games - that makes sense, even if we don't agree with it. There's logic there even if you think he's wrong.

To say he didn't do it on purpose, kept his elbow tucked, was trying to make a hockey play, etc. and then STILL suspend him three games and list Backstrom's injury as a reason... well that's kind of mind boggling/infuriating.

And to say the Cowen play was "accidental". Yeah, I dunno. Sometimes I really wonder what he's seeing there.

It seems as if you think I feel Shanahan is doing a good job. I agree completely that he sucks, and is inconsistent.

Hmm, they'd probably want D instead of all Cs.

so maybe replace Bozak with Franson, or replace one of Holland/Gauthier with one of Finn/Percy.

Haven't ran the #'s but wouldn't it basically have to be Bozak to make the cap work? unless we are somehow able to move liles

Do the cap hits match? They can't go over their current budget due to owner constraints, so it pretty much has to be even or less than Spezza's salary returning.

I am one that believes that the goalie should be fair game once they leave the crease.

I actually don't see anything wrong with what Lucic did.

Protect the goalies...

They're the most protected guys on the ice. If you don't want to get hit, don't leave the crease, and certainly don't try to win a puck race against a freight train.

Lucic sees Miller in front of him the whole time
Wholly dishonest.

One goalie is on his knees and at the end of the crease without the puck. Gets blown up.

Miller was skating with the puck like a player.

Think twice about what exactly? Trying to tip a puck 6 feet from the net? Backstrom hilariously overplayed the shot, it's the only reason contact was ever made. There was no reason for Kadri to expect a goaltender to be there. No goalie in the planet plays in that part of the ice to play any type of shot.
No he didn't.

Goalies are always finding themselves sliding outside of the crease during the course of play. You know this. I know this. Everyone knows this.

He slid over to block a shot. But his left foot was actually still touching blue paint when Kadri made contact.

This line of thought you have on Backstrom is embarrassing. There was nothing out of the ordinary in how Backstrom played that.

I wouldn't make either of those trades.

NHL says Kadri (who has no prior suspension history), didn't hit goalie intentionally and tucked in his elbow -- but they give him one of the toughest suspensions for hitting a goalie ever.

Cowen elbows a guy in the head on purpose -- 0 games.

No Leafs bias at all.

If Kadri elbowed a guy like Cowen did, it would be replayed on sportscentre a million times, there would be outrage at how a dirty player like Kadri is allowed to play in the league, and he'd be suspended for multiple games.
