DIGITAL TICKETING COMING TO CANES/PNC

I expect that's accurate but I'd bet most...

I could learn to use most all the features and maybe even come to almost like it but there's too much in my life to want to really get into it. I understand the technology - it's the details that don't particularily interest me.

I have an iPhone4 and while I have an upgrade available, I can't really justify bothering to do it. I probably use my iPhone more than AH, but I have never even bothered to look into those "purchasing" apps like were described for Starbucks (then again, I go to starbucks about 4 times a year). I don't have a QR reader app (I think that's what they are called). It wouldn't interested me in the least to have my ticket on my phone for anything (and my iPhone is occasionally slow due to its memory...I'd hate to rely on it for anything like that anyway).

As far as stats, my 86 yo Mom just bought an iPhone...I really have no idea why. I can't imagine she ever does anything more than call and occasionally text (now, have a snafu with her wireless Nook and she's got issues).

Eileen, your Mom got an IPhone for the same reason most people do - the sales people push smartphones and talk customers in that direction. Also, Verizon (i.e.) have changed their rate plans to make it far more attractive. They were going to let us keep the plan we'd had since Alltel but the text and data rates would have been far more expensive. The last upgrade before the smartphones, we both got the LG Cosmos 'cause our daughters talked us into 'texting is the greatest'. I got rid of mine within the 2 week allowance and paid more to get the latest LG flip-phone. Barb finally got tired of texting and rarely uses her Samsung s'phone for that but won't give it up. I do need a dataplan for my tablet; wi-fi & 4G. So it's cheaper to have the unlimited call, text & data.

Barb is the same way about her Nook, they are inseparable. But I've had to fix issues several times for her. Heck, my old Sony Touch reader isn't even wi-fi but works wonderfully well. I have to admit, I've considered a newer Nook tablet but more likely would upgrade my Xoom to a multi-purpose tablet that would do 4G - the Xoom is too heavy and clunky to be a good e-reader. Damn, now I'm thinking about it...

And in thinking about it, we've got 4 smart phones on our plan and not a single one of us are using phone based purchasing (or plan to any time soon). So we are part of the 50% of adults with smart phones, but none of us use that kind of feature.

All 4 of us have smartphones. I have 2, one personal, the other from work. My wife, youngest daughter and I also have iPads and I just got a Surface 3. My wife, oldest daughter and I all have Nooks, mine is the original with 3G and WiFi. I've loaded the Nook software on my iPad, iPhone and Surface. I use my iPhone for everything, even though it's my work phone. My Android is over 2 years old but I'm not going to replace it unless I have to turn in my iPhone.

For me personally, this wouldn't be good. I end up selling a bunch of tickets during the season and just about always meet in a parking lot somewhere handing over the hard copy tickets. This alone, would cause me not to renew.

We're slacking in the tech dept I think, lol! We've got 3 iPhones and 1 Samsung Ssomething (we got a used Samsung Galaxy for a kid as a replacement for a broken iPhone mid contract and when the contract was up for renewal, he stuck with Samsung) and I completely forgot about my work Blackberry (yes Blackberry). My employer recently came out with a a plan to pay you $25/month if you opt to install their app on your own phone and turn in your provided smart phone. I'm not sure I'll go for it, because when I'm not on call this BB is turned off. Not sure i want to figure out how to separate my work crap/texts from my own. Not surprisingly, the ONLY thing I do on the BB is answer the phone and check pages/texts and email.

We've got 1 iPad and I do use the Kindle app on that.

I have one rule in my house ... if I'm paying for it, then EVERYBODY in my family is going to have the same smart phone. That way I stand half a chance of being able to sort out any problems. Thus I've got four bloody iPhone 5 devices ... one is my work phone ... and an iPad that I also use for work.

Honestly ... I'm just about sick of all the tech "advancements." I wish they'd just make the stuff we already have work better and leave it alone for awhile.

you aren't going to like what's coming then...

I never like what's coming when it's new hardware every couple of years. I figure it out and keep on rolling ... and try to keep in mind how thankful I am that I'm not still using a bloody two-way radio in my car and a pager anymore like I was when I got out of school.

What no on/off switch?
More like not having to make an excuse for not answering the phone. People are so insecure these days, it's impossible to just say, I didn't feel like talking on the phone, without them taking it personally. And I really don't like talking on the phone.

I paid $75 bucks for 100 minutes back on January 13th and I still have $40 left to use.

I'm still on an iPhone 3 and still have more functionality than I can possibly use. I don't see getting anything new anytime soon.

So here's my latest experience with digital ticketing...for those uninitiated, maybe this will make it more compelling for you.

My kids and I are big fans of Beck, who is appearing at the Red Hat Amphitheater tonight. I logged into ticketmaster.com, bought our tickets opting for e-tickets and instantly received an email confirming my purchase. Then, I opened the TicketMaster app on my phone, logged in, and saved the four tickets to my Passbook.

Nothing to print, nothing to remember to bring with me from home this morning...all four tickets are in my phone and I have everything I need for when I meet my kids at the show. If one of us is delayed or for some reason one of us can't go and I need to transfer a ticket to someone else, I can do it right from my phone.

The future is now...get used to it! :)

Y'all need a few hours to spend with Odelay and Guero, arguably two of the best alternative albums of the last 20 years. Beck's new album Morning Phase is pretty damn good, too.

Then again, based on your attitudes toward new technology, maybe you're too old.

Thanks for the explanation.

I think maybe I just don't do enough stuff to have actual tickets be a burden, maybe I just don't get out enough. :)

Perhaps if I was still going to a lot of games it would make more sense to look into. I presume that if the Canes allowed you to do this, you could then "forward" your tickets (just like you do with CAM now) to someone else who could also download them to their phone?
