The ****ing Offseason Thread - 2016

Tournaments for prospects and rookies (like the WJC) I can understand and enjoy, because it's part of their trying to make it to the league and establish themselves as NHLers.

For established NHLers, I'm fine (though not in love) with the Olympics once every four years, but these other competitive tournaments that mean absolutely nothing are the stupidest ****ing things, to just tire out and risk injury to core players in totally worthless games.

Wrong thread?

Collided with teammate during Olympic qualification game, left the game in the 3rd.
Here's a look at what happened:

And here's a link to the full video.

On the upside, he got up, and didn't look like he was in a tremendous amount of difficulty, though he was favouring his blocker arm.

Shit happens. I won't begrudge one of our players trying to help his country (in Andersen's case, Denmark) get into the Olympics.

This kind of thing could just as easily happen in a meaningless NHL pre-season game.

That's true, but at least that would've been on the job for us. It's just ****ing annoying. He hasn't even played a game for us yet on what I feel is a bit of a scary long-term contract. Last thing I want to see is him getting a missile straight to what looks like close to the groin area in a bullshit qualifying game.

It's the one thing that players get to individually decide, if they choose to play in an international tournament they assume all the risk.

Does it suck if a player is injured playing outside the NHL? Sure. But they could just as easily get injured at practice.

Again, if they get injured at practice, it's in the course of performing services for us. It sucks, but that's the nature of the beast.

It's like if you get injured in the workplace while on the job or at home while goofing around. Pretty sure your employer will hate the latter more than the former, even though you'll probably file a workplace injury claim regardless, you scum.

Well it looks like it's either his arm or his shoulder, which is kinda good news. It doesn't look like he had a concussion / neck injury (which is chronic and bad) and it's definitely not his groin (which is bad for goalies) ... shoulder may take longer to heal but at least it's not chronic. Arm, depending on how bad it is, can only take days to weeks.
