Point is that there is no correlation in the argument between the disallowed goal and the opportunities that were presented to the Preds to score, including yes a 30 second 5 on 3 which is still enough time to do some damage.

But bottom line is that the Preds also didn't exactly get it done due to their own failures.

They wanna harp on the early whistle fine but they couldn't cash in on a 5 on 3

Is it totally the refs fault? no

Is it a different game if they have a 1-0 lead? 100% yes. The game is different from that point onwards. The pens press more, the Preds defend and counter attack. It changes everything after the goal. Does that mean they win? No. But they would have been in a better position, no denying that.

Ref made a mistake, that is obvious....it happens so often now that several teams like Edm and Boston can cry foul also.

But neglecting to acknowledge the Preds shortfall is just as valid in this loss.

It's like you haven't been watching hockey forever. We've seen hundreds of quick whistles that either negated goals or potential scoring chances over the years. It happens... it's unfortunate. The refs tried to make up for it by not calling anything against them while calling the Pens a few times. Not much else you can do. Once he blew that whistle, it was too late.

I agree HP. i'm just wondering why he was so confident in blowing the whistle, as his view of the puck was clearly blocked by Murray. He's just guessing at that point. Wasn't one of the other officials in a better spot?

Do the refs on the goal line ever defer to the ref out at the blue line when the goalie covers it? I honestly don't believe they ever do. It was all based on Murray's reaction. He appeared to be squeezing the puck.

I share your belief...just thought the refs positioning on that was useless. Murray's reaction should not be the best evidence considered.

It did... and it happens all the time. You have to get over it and move on. At least the refs tried to make up for it as best they could. There are lots of **** ups pretty much every game. Some of them directly cost a goal and other potentially cost goals.

I was legitimately asking though... do refs on the goal line or behind the net ever defer to the blue line ref? Cause there is no perfect position that allows you to see a loose puck no matter where it lies.

I usually see refs in better position....that's why I asked the question re: other refs. legit question on my end too.

Why would Pollack not blow the whistle in the scenario above? If he can see it, he should call it. He definitely couldn't see it last night.

I agree. And if a player whacks the goalie, they get penalized.

If Pollack sees it sitting behind Murray he's not going to blow it dead, but if the ref at the point feels he's in better position he will decide to blow it dead.

That's why I think that the goal line ref always makes the call. You can't ever know what the other refs doesn't see.

I think that's why they have a mandate to blow the whistle quickly. The goalies are so vulnerable... they're just sitting ducks and that extra second leads to guys crashing the net or whacking at hands trying to free up pucks. Goalies would be getting hurt and there would be a hell of a lot more fighting.
