Skinner Traded to Slugs

Well now we can we stop worrying about the awkwardness of Skinner staying... I suspect there are multiple people opening up threads so I will wait for all the new posts before I comment but we got basically a pile of crap for Skinner is my initial take.'

Add Cliff Pu to the pile of prospects.

Canes Trade Skinner to Buffalo for a nothing prospect and 3 picks

Skinner to Buffalo for their 2019 2nd round pick, their 2020 3rd and 6th round picks, and overage Junior RW Cliff Pu (former 3rd round pick).

If you are one of those optimistic type of folk, you are thinking there is as 2nd part to all of this that involves Faulk being traded (maybe with prospects) and a legit NHL top 6 forward coming back to fill that hole that Skinner leaves as, you know, the guy who actually has a proven NHL track record scoring goals, the one thing this team hasn't been able to do well enough for a long time.

We just gave away the guy who at worst was still our 2nd best goal scorer in his prime. So now impress me Waddell and crew and bring us back a better overall player fully capable of 30 goals and/or 60 points that fits what we are trying to do better than Skinner did. We sure as heck better have something else cooking.

Re: 2017-18 Miscellaneous Canes News Thread

Just saw that. 2nd round pick plus 19 second round and third and sixth round in 20.

Could not do better than that???

Feel sorry for Jeff having to go to Butthole, NY.

How the Polar's word does this help us this year???

yes Pu had a very good year in junior and he's 20 so he must go to the Canes or Charlotte now. Being 20 that should be factor in his junior success

The only way this trade helps us this year is if it frees up a roster spot and the money to make a big trade fill the gaping hole we just created in the 'goal scorer' spot in our lineup.

yes it seems like a pretty average return , at best.

Can't recall the last trade with Buffalo but I assume there was one since the move.

A player is only as valuable as a team is willing to pay for him. This was the best return so it is what it is. I guess we could keep him and let him walk for nothing next year.

Pu is a very good prospect. Excited to see how he progresses.

I hope Wadell lubed up before he bent over and took that reaming. Horrible return on your best scorer. I'd rather have waited, given him a chance to play on a scoring line, and moved him at the deadline for much more than that pile of garbage.

I guess this answers my question about whether or not Brindy saw more in Jeff than Peters did. Thus folks, is how you ruin a player.

Waddell says Buffalo was high on Skinner's list and the NTC was a factor

Skinner can afford some of the damned good skunky kind, obviously.

Last time I was in Buffahole was Sept. 2001 and it did not smell nearly as horrible as it did in the 60's and 70's. I guess it has that going for it.

Buffalo is close to home for Jeff, not completely surprising to me he would be willing to be traded there. He is not going to end up on their 3rd line...he can put up big numbers there playing with Eichel and cash in on them as a UFA

Yeah - I was kinda thinking along those same lines. Brindy must have had concerns with him and/or maybe Jeff was making it clear we wasn't going to sign here and wasn't going to accept a trade after the season started? Heck, even if there's another move and this makes room for a big signing, it seems like there would have been more of a return. Maybe other teams were seeing more of what we've been seeing - a smaller guy who can't play a physical game, can score but struggles to play within the system - any system we've tried anyhow. Plus LCKBP (Legendary Coach Kinectico Bill Peters) didn't like him either, so who's gonna want a guy like that?

Seems like we got shafted on that one.

Look. This is a BS, panic move in a situation that required a cool head. I’m not going waste any time sugar coating this move because it’s garbage. Forget Faulk, that’s irrelevant to this move. This is a move you make at the deadline if there’s nothing else on the table and you’re definitely losing the guy otherwise. This is NOT a deal you make in the summer when you have months and months to make something else happen.

I’d honestly fire the GM who even thought this was a good idea, not to mention the idiot who gave Skinner the NTC in the first place

This Pu fellow had a nice year.

Not to burst any bubbles, but in 84 points in 65 games is not a particularly impressive season in your 2nd post draft year. That said, 86 points in 63 games in his 1st post draft year was quite good. So hopefully for the Canes he bounces back next year.

Unless the guy doing the firing is also the guy who made this trade happen. Entirely possible that Dundon told Waddell that he was fed up with the Skinner situation lingering on, he doesn't want guys here who don't want to be here, so just move him for the best you can get and let's move on. Kinda like the Lindholm/Hanifin thing (which Waddell and Dudley were able to spin into a little more gold than Pu).

You are bursting anyone's bubble. This trade sucked for the Canes and Buffalo just robbed Carolina. Waddell must have been guided by Bergevin :couch

I agree you don't make this deal without Dundon giving it the OK.

For Staal they got 2 second round picks and prospect Aleksi Saarela and that was a deadline deal. A better player got an extra 2nd rounder vs. this Skinner deal.
