MLB players definitely don't want to set a precedent here with revenue splits. Much better for them that MLB allows owners to spend whatever stupid money they want to on player salaries with only some half ass thresholds and penalties for exceeding certain amounts for multiple years. The players are not about to take anything less then their salaries for this season, prorated for games actually played, no matter what the lost revenues really are.

That’s for sure. The current CBA expires on 12/1/21. The last thing the players want is a precedent this close to expiration. We could be staring at a lockout before the 2022 season.

But the players also don't want to be seen as arguing over how many millions they should get paid while an ungodly number of their fans have lost their jobs entirely. Not saying that that balances out the equities, but it does add counterweight.

Problem being that there are two economic engines that drive sports, and it seems that they are diametrically opposed with regards to when they want things to "return to normal." Fans that buy tickets are a big driver in all sports, but for the most part they aren't comfortable even thinking about being back in an arena or stadium any time soon. The other big engine is TV, and they are demanding content for their cash ... as is their right. Sports leagues are literally tearing themselves apart trying to figure out how to get this stuff right.

If I’m the owners then cancel it all and the players get zip.
 
younger fans may be more willing to go to games when fans are allowed back. I can't imagine businesses taking clients or potential clients to games for a while. Plenty of empty suites and club seats. In places were big chunks of regular tickets are owned by businesses those seats would be empty or resold.

Yeah ... then the owners get zip too. And they still have sizable salaries, labor burden and fixed asset expenses to cover in the front office. It's not really a we win/you lose sort of deal.
 
Cal State campuses online only in the fall. Most of those schools are smaller and don't play D1 sports . The 3 that are D1 for FB are San Jose St, Fresno St. and Sand Diego St

Will be interesting to see if the UCal system does the same - including UCLA and Cal Berkeley.

NC art museum cancelled all their summer outdoor concerts.

Almost half of the Cal State campuses are over 20,000 students. Total enrollment across the system is almost 500,000. In addition to the above, Cal State San Luis Obispo and Sacramento St. play in the FCS. Long Beach St., Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge and Cal Stare Fullerton are D1 in all sports but don’t play football. Fullerton is a baseball powerhouse.

The Governor is an ex officio member of both boards, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the UCal system did the same. In that system, only Cal-Berkley and UCLA play D1 football. The Davis, Irvine, Riverside and Santa Barbara campuses are D1 in all sports but don’t play football.
 
My oldest daughter is going to be a Freshman at NC State this coming fall so we are watching all of this unfold with great interest. She actually was originally accepted to State for 'Spring Connect 2021', which didn't make her totally happy as she would have to wait until next Spring to start, but it was at least an admission to her first choice school. Even after being told 3 weeks ago that Spring Connect students were never moved to Fall admission, at least not at NC State, she got a call on May 2nd asking if she wanted to move her admission to Fall 2020. I have a first hand view on how much this pandemic has shaken up college admissions.

It will really suck for all 2020 High School graduates to have their Freshman year in college also completely messed up. They are definitely going through some unusual times. Meanwhile my youngest daughter took her first AP exam this afternoon at home on her laptop. 😔
 
Received an email from Wake County Public Schools that the kid will not receive any grades for her 4th quarter and will just move on to 5th grade whenever that starts for reals.
 
The non-D1 Cal State schools play in an in-State D2 conference that has cancelled all fall sports.

The state has had more than 11,000 cases and 540 deaths, with roughly half of each in Maricopa County, home to all of their major league teams in Phoenix and Glendale, as well as 10 of the state’s 15 spring training sites.

It has amused me no end hearing the reporting on this differ depending on if it's a sports outlet (no big deal, these are not "major" schools) and news outlets (who see a huge State university system being shut down fairly early in this process and don't even think about sports). I gotta be honest ... even for a sports nut, if your first thought was how this announcement impacted the college football schedule then you probably have a perspective problem that deserves some consideration.

Yeah ... this is a rough time for everybody, but I feel for those kids who are supposed to be entering college in the fall. That seems like such a big life step when you're that age and so very much energy and care goes into the process of applying and making the final decision ... and wham. Welcome to Uncertainty, population - most of the world.

Friend of mine’s daughter is a freshman this year and he says she feels robbed of half a year.
Mine is a h/s jr and is going to do her AP exams by laptop. Doubt any of us could ever have said that!
 
I brought up sports with Cal State because it's a sports board. If Fresno St, San Diego St and San Jose St. don't play that's 3 games in Mountain West that are off the schedule for most or all MW teams. Maybe those teams could only play conference road games. they could cancel non MW games. That would be a bad schedule so they may decide it's not worth it to have no home games. Princeton had a season of only road games while their stadium was torn down and rebuilt on the same site. Stanford tore down and rebuilt their stadium in 9 months by construction working 2 8 hour shifts per day . On the other hand Cal played in San Fran for a season while their stadium was rebuilt from scratch on the same site.
