GDT #3 - Aug 6, 8pm, SN - Hammer Down

Freddy has the worst prestoluck I've ever seen then. He lets one of those in every series we play in.

#prestoluck

No, every goalie has some of this shit on their resume. It's only Andersen's that get talked about ad nauseum.

Because this one, which also flicked off of Rielly's stick and went into the only crack it could possibly find, is in any way comparable to Jones's which went through a maze of bodies and found that same microscopic spot.

I've watched a lot this week and is the same everywhere. They don't care about other teams though which I can relate to.

I can relate to it as well, especially in the heat of the moment. But upon further review, it’s hard to justify the laser focused scapegoating.

The issue I have is that we aren’t allowing that many chances but almost every chance does seem to go in. Do the Leafs give up more XHD(made up stat) chances or something?

I think its just the frustration that the leafs have outplayed the blue jackets cumulatively over the three games yet find themselves down 2-1. So naturally you look at the goalie to make one extra save. That one save could make or break a series. And it has been four years of freddy not making that save. The frustration you see from leafs fans isn't just a one series thing.

Part of the reason this team keeps failing is bad luck, some of it is having horse shit d, some of it is crumbling under pressure and not having the composure defensively to deal with the offensive pushes from the opposition, but freddy tends to fold in big moments too. I cant recall him ever stealing a big playoff game or at least not folding in a big playoff game or in big moments. I think that's where the frustration comes from. And really it's probably the easiest and quickest problem to fix, hence the constant posts about it.

I'm up at the cottage alone and I get the game...but I am too nervous to watch this shit. Here's hoping that the hockey God's give us the win and then game 5 and we actually play Boston as opposed to Tampa as I think Montreal may play

I can totally understand the past informing the current angst. It sucks to watch the game dreading fredmuffins.

Generally speaking, because they are the last line of defence, I think keepers get too much emotional credit/blame. Muffins happen all over the ice; but if one of your high priced forwards were to miss a wide open net in OT, they would not get blamed for losing the game. It’d be “damn what an unlucky break”... but missing an easy goal can be just as harmful as missing an easy save.

Which is by the way what happened last night. All Matty had to do with 2 minutes left in regulation was lightly flip the puck over the goalie's pad. Instead, he lazily just tucked it into the pad instead. He had an atrocious game by his standard, but literally not one person is mentioning that muffin.

Yeah I dont disagree. Goalies often get unreasonable praise or blame when a team loses or wins games they dont deserve to win. But I think Andersen's performances in high pressure, big game/big moment situations may be a bit too consistent to be just a coincidence. It has followed him since Anaheim; their fans had the exact same criticism. The data set is increasing in size year after year. I'd have to dig deeper into his stats during those bigger moments to know for sure though.
