Around The League - 2023-24 Regular Season

Tampa built well, but they seemed to collapse at odd times, allowing them to get high picks(Hedman,Stamkos)...the team wasn't really ever that bad. Full credit for drafting well beyond that, however.

Dallas simply overachieved to get that far.

He agrees that Laine will not get value.

He thinks he's all-world but will not get the return people expect.

you make smart tough decisions , move on forget the past
Freed up cap space from Staal deal offsets buyout.

Word in these parts today had NYR owner Dolan ordering all out push for playoffs next season. Wonder if NYR go after Stamkos to address their C need.

Also Stars owner apparently has ordered a payroll slash. RFA Roope Hintz would fit mighty nice next to KK...

Word is they will use Staal money for players currently on the roster. I wouldn't expect them to get Laine or Pietrangelo.

half the league will be in dump mode but only a few will be buyers

TB has to convince players to leave with all those moronic trade clauses

Brisebois has to pull rabbits out of his ass , surprised no compliance buyouts were on the table

Tampa Bay's the model franchise in the NHL. They're not perfect, but they've hit on the majority of their moves.

Dallas was just playing like the Habs did. Defense, defense, very opportunistic scoring and hope the goaltending holds up. They were 5 minutes into the third period and they had 9 total shots... for the totality of the game. They started pressing after, but still.

That's the obvious one but there's talk it may have to be Palat.

I actually really like Killorn's game but he's around $5M a year. They all are, Palat, Gourde too.

Palat, Gourde and Johnson have full NTC. Killorn has a 16-team list that he can submit. He's from Montreal, it would be funny if they are on his list.

I strongly doubt they'd trade Palat, unless the return is so great that it would be silly to say no to.

Palat was tremendous for Tampa Bay.

In an ideal world, Tampa Bay would love to trade Tyler Johnson but I don't think they'll be able to without taking salary (or holding onto some of his) in return.

Logically, it would make sense. I'm assuming Stamkos hasn't received his signing bonus for the upcoming season, he's owed a $8.5M signing bonus with $1M in actual salary for the upcoming season. If Tampa Bay is willing to eat that $8.5M, not only would Stamkos be easy to move, he'd get a great return too.

However, I'm not sure the logistics of moving him would be great. Legacy players almost never move unless it's the end of their careers.
