Habs News & Notes: Regular Season 2019-2020

Bergy said today that he wants Gally to stay in MTL all his career, and that he knows that he can’t just offer Gally only 4-5 years, because Gally will just said until next summer to get more on the market.

Looks like Bergy is about to throw 8 years at Gally

No big deal , he can join the parade of albatross deals on our cap

I don’t see a huge payday in this climate right now if he tests UFA

I will be surprised if he doesn’t get hurt again next season .

I would let the season play out like we should of did with Price before he got paid

Disingenuous...Gallagher has scored 30G+ each of the last 2-full seasons while playing in all 82G and was on pace to repeat the feat again this past season - he’s been very durable, on a below market deal.

Except for 15-16 when he suffered the injury and recovery into the following season, he’s missed 1-regular season game in his other 6-seasons since coming into the NHL (81GP in 13-14)

Players get hurt in the playoffs all the time...nature of playoff hockey. Seguin, Point, Hedman last year etc.

His deal isn't under market , you cant look 5 years later and say shit I left money on the table

He took financial security for life when he was a nobody in this league

This regime is retarded to cave into a 7-8 year deal at 6-7 mil

Move him like you did Max , we will find an idiot .

But if you read his post season comments, Gallagher basically admitted the team isn't good enough if he's on their top line.

Gallagher is tired of losing - he knows he needs to be a secondary scoring option for a team to contend seriously.....so by definition, he shouldn't be asking for $7.5M. The past is the past...he got paid. It turns out below market value, but neither party knew that going in. Gallagher chose security over "betting on himself", and I'm sure he's ok with that decision.

Is there a deal that you are comfortable with Gallagher or you think we should move him no matter what?

I think we'll resign him on a deal hovering around 6x6. We'll likely won't get value in the last 2 years of the contract but I doubt he'll sign anything shorter than this and I doubt we'll sign anything longer.

I don’t think he admitted that he’s not a first line player on a good team. He is. I think his point was that the team needs more than just one 30 goal scorer. It does.

he was benched, remember. first liners don't get benched.

6x 4 years

If 11 has to play a key role on this team , your in trouble

He is solid complimentary player only if you have the stars in place to carry the load

Its like Palat or Kilhorn , they are useless without Kuch , Hedman , and Point

Our entire roster is made up of complimentary players , you cant have too many of them at big money on a bubble team

He has 5 gaols in his last 27 playoff games , never made a difference .

Here is the issue , you double his salary your not getting anymore upside ...50 point player only getting older

The cap is going nowhere til 2023-2024 , players are going to get squeezed

While he plays a rough game, I think Gallagher needs bigger linemates due to his size. They'll get him more room.

Stamkos was benched too after scoring a goal on his initial shift, Hedman last year was benched...after the playoffs learned both players were injured much like Gallagher

I'd like 5X6, but may have to add another year and hope inflation will make the cap go much higher by 2024

Gallagher doesn’t play a “rough game”, yes he goes to dirty areas looking for the puck.. in front of the net etc. but he doesn’t go out of his way to hit players, block shots etc like Ryan Callahan used to for example.

that's not how it works...unless Alzner is willing to provide a partial refund
I have this sneaky suspicion that he'll give Gallagher max term in return for a bit of a discount. Gally would probably get $7M on the open market (although I do concede the market is in great flux right now) and in order to bring it down to $6-$6.25 level MB will offer term.
