Josh Anderson signs 7 x $5.5m

He's been positive about Anderson.

I am positive when it has merits

This was a great trade , we haven’t had a player like this since Claude Lemieux

I shit on this team because they make dumb moves based on always overrating this team or simply not capitalizing on assets

What more proof do you want , 8 years later we are still a bubble team .

Nothing against Petry , Price , Gallagher , Subban , Markov, Pleks and others

We simply missed too many glorious Max type trade opportunities to reshape this team

Proof is obvious , patching got us nowhere .

Anderson and Boone Jenner were two big reasons the Habs couldn’t beat the Jackets often.

One thing to keep in mind about Anderson is that during his 27 goal season, he got zero goals on the PP and his 5/5 stats were great

It’s still a huge gamble for Bergevin.

They are all risks , need to analyze the total picture

Fit , term , dollars , team structure

JA is what we need and has low miles on his nhl odometer

I am not worried about the shoulder injury at all

This isn’t a Lucic “ he is done” signing

It’s not a Gallagher , “ how many decline years are you paying for “

It’s not a Drouin , “ doesn’t solve anything signing “

Meatheads are making 4 mil in this league , we haven’t filled a need like this for decades

No brainer transaction

There's not much risk for MB. They probably need to win now/real soon for him to get another 3-5 year run as the GM, so he has to make moves.

Would have been funny to see the alternate reality of Anderson signing 7-years @ $5M AAV w CBJ, and praise being poured, vs the $500K more dished out per the typical required Mtl sweetener

Question

Forget the optics/media sentimental stuff

If you had to choose one contract only , who do you keep

Gally or Anderson

It’s not a simple binary answer IMO - IF the Habs prospect pool steadily churns out players who can step right in and contribute in their given roles over the next 2-3 years (Poehling, Caufield, Fleury, Juulsen, Teasdale, Ylonen) buying time till 23-24 season when I expect cap will start to skyrocket instantly with built up coffers from Seattle joining & US TV deal and expansion $ in the system. In lieu of those variables, market cost for acquiring subsets of talent will also rise significantly.

So my answer simply stated - if the prospects filter in as anticipated and provide a buffer over next couple of years, which isn’t a stretch Habs will overcome flat cap era with minimal damage (likely losing Weal, Tatar, Byron), with potential of being very well positioned post flat cap.

Caveat: everything is based on Suzuki & KKs continued progress from playoffs, Anderson & Gallagher’s health not taking any major setbacks, Toffoli being able to maintain pace, and present crop of almost NHL ready prospects (Poehling, Caufield, Fleury, Juulsen, Teasdale, Ylonen) not flopping. Wouldn’t hurt if a couple off the radar prospects ramp up...

Gallagher by a mile.

Anderson could potentially be a good signing, but Gallagher's salary is still a bargain. The only argument against BG's contract is that he could break down... But he's shown zero signs of that yet. In fact the past 3 years have been his best, and last year he was on pace for his best season before the premature end to the season.

I would bet Gally breaks down 2 years into the contract , that's not a bargain deal at all

A small breakdown is an albatross deal , this isn't Sid going from 100 to 75 points and still be a front liner

Toffoli is a bargain , same age and caliber of player .

There is no upside on a 40% increase in pay with Gally

Not even close. These are the types of comemnts where you lose credibility and come across as purely agenda-driven.

If Tyler is the same caliber, he should fire his agent for costing him millions of dollars

The only tier that Gally is above TT is the hype machine

There is no way a sane GM take his contact over TT

40% more salary for similar production and 2 years less …….please

Important variable IMO not being taken into account in your analysis: Toffoli has had the opportunity to play with higher end talent than Gallagher - especially on the PP during Kings heyday (Doughty & Kopitar for starters), and with Van last season.

Looking at the stats without context shows similar players, but context changes that equation considerably...
