The MotherFucking Off-Season Thread

I figured Anderson would get around the NHL minimum, but I’m a little surprised he’d want to lock himself into that number for three years.

Good for the Leafs though. If he doesn’t pan out, no real risk.

With COVID, I would assume that 4th line/AHL guys will take the term and security over a few hundred dollars on a short term deal

That’s a pretty good contract for both. He’s a bubble player right now. At worst he’s given himself certainty of 750k. At best he might have just given himself a legit shot at making the team. No knowing how much you’re worth to the NHL as a bottom line guy unless you’re in the NHL.

great signing if he’s any good.

Really interested in the trade deadline this year. Between teams losing cash and the expansion draft - could be some interesting adds we make if we look like a top team that could make a run

Why is vesey in top six instead of hyman? He needs to really show more than he did in Buffalo to grab that spot from the best Jewish leafs player ever

A compliment to Hyman tbh.

Tavares/mitch and matthews/willy should both be able to carry anyone.

So for me id like to see them try to make as good a 3rd line as possible, and then give all the one dimensional guys the chance to fight over those complimentary spots on the top two lines.

I give first shot with Matthews/Willy to Thornton, cuz he's an epic playmaker while they're both speedy snipers good on the boards and in front.

Vesey gets first dibs on that next line because he's got good speed to go with some finish and that line needs a bit of speed. But I'd also give robbie Simmonds Spezza engvall shots there too if need be.

But the basic thing is go make as good a 2-way 3rd line as possible. And tbh that could be closer to 2nd line quality if it works.

i have a feeling engvall has a spot to lose given his versatility and pk abilities.

i don't think we'll see spezza taking a regular shift at C, and i could definitely see a scenario where jumbo joe and spetzky rotate in and out to keep fresh legs.

Tbh id love to see a Barabanov-Engvall-Anderson 4th line, and Robertson take that spot from Vesey.

Thornton's the only one of those cheap vets I'm really sold on.

But you gotta give them all a chance now.

Even if this might be our actual best lineup:

Thornton - Matthews - Nylander
Robertson - Tavares - Marner
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Hyman
Barabanov - Engvall - Anderson

I really have a lot of trouble cobbling together an "everyday starting lineup" out of this roster. Still makes me think Dubas and Keefe are going to rip a page out of their Marlies playbook and have pretty much everybody rotate in and out of the lineup.

And a few points on this roster:

  • I can't see Hyman, barring injuries, playing regularly on a line that doesn't have one of Matthews or Tavares on it

  • I think Nylander stays on left wing

  • I'd be surprised if Thornton saw regular top-6 ice-time. I don't think they'd want to ride a 41 year-old dude that hard.

  • I think Thornton's going to mostly play center, and when he and Kerf are both in the lineup, Kerf will play left wing

  • Amirov hasn't signed an ELC and can't sign one until March at the earliest since he's signed in the KHL for this season. So you can probably swap him out with Adam Brooks if what you're going for here is our depth chart to start the season

  • ****ing Marincin. ****ing cock-a-roach.

3rd in U20 scoring in the KHL and 2 points in the VHL, after scoring 1ppg + in the MHL last year. Not sure stinks in the right adjective here Presty.
