OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Just getting the vaccine to the population that's high risk alone will make a huge difference to hospitals and icu's. The under 60s can wait.

Stakes are higher than they've ever been. This is a very unique situation. Mid q3 is not in the realm of estimates I've seen from usually conservative medical professions. If they are not widely available by May/June something went horribly wrong.

One problem in ontario : Hoskins killed morale then ford starved the health system and chased out most of the Smart people.

It's no secret, that if mask-wearing (voluntary of course) continues - it would have a significant effect on the annual flu season as well. Less illness less deaths.

the year I moved from Hali back to Toronto, I got hammered with the flu and again with another bug after years of closer to perfect health. I attributed it to bigger city = more germs :p

I think a lot of it is WFH.

Anecdotally:
I went from working at an office to freelancing from home about 7 years ago. My cold frequency went 3x/yr to 1 cold every 18 months.

No more 2x daily trips on crowded TTC
No more sharing recycled office air with hundreds of co-workers.
Yeah covid is about 3+ times more contagious than the seasonal flu so it makes sense that the steps we're all taking to limit the spread of covid will probably help limit the spread of other shit way more effectively. I think distancing and to your point, working from home, has been the biggest benefactor but it all helps I'd imagine. The flu pretty much disappeared from the southern hemisphere this year. I still got my flu shot... JUST in case of course.
