2020-21 Hurricanes Prospects and Wolves Thread

From what I read on Twitter last night, it looked like Jarvis and Rees were noticeable in a good way during the scrimmages at Canada’s WJC camp. Craig Button for one was impressed with Rees.

Lots of real stats finally for several of our prospects as the QMJHL is back in business, some College teams have started play, and the USHL has started play

Just realized that Luke Henman is still on the list. The Canes didn’t sign him so don’t have his rights anymore.

Oh crap! With all this mess I completely lost track of the fact the Canes had to sign Henman before this past June 1st and didn't. Yeah, he's a UFA now as no team drafted him in the 2020 draft. Time to purge him from the list.

That was an interesting move by the Canes. I know that we are spending a ton of draft capital now on high skill home run shots once we get into the later rounds, but its not like we have too many players under contract. Henman isn't likely to make it to the NHL, but if he throws up a big season this year at the Q he might end up with a 2 way NHL entry level deal somewhere.

I was kind of surprised too. With so many recent draftees either in college or overseas on multi-year contracts, it seemed like an easy way to load up the AHL team, even if he never played in the NHL. Figure around $300k for 3 years between signing bonus and entry level deal and it should have been a pretty low risk deal.

Considering how thin our goalie prospect pool is, hopefully LaFontaine doesn't give us the pending college UFA runaround. It didn't look very good after his first 2 seasons at Michigan, but that one really good season in the BCHL seemed to have gotten him back on track and he was pretty good for Minnesota last season.

4 wins, 1.00 GAA .961 Sv%. That is a pretty good start to his final NCAA season.

Takeaway ... goalies are weird. Hopefully he can back up that start with a full season of solid results.

Jack LaFontaine was named National Goaltender of the month for November. He leds all NCAA goalies with a .961 Save%

Patrik Puistola is not on Finland’s WJC preliminary roster. He was the 2nd leading scorer last year.

Wow, LaFontaine is off to a start. Is that skewed at all due to level of competition? Either way thats burning rubber out the gate.

Yes and yes. Remember to keep that grain of salt handy for all of this year's results across the board. That said, he's playing well and backing up the resurgence he had last season.

Jack Lafontaine’s numbers in the first half of his season:

8-0-0 record .965 save percentage 1.00 GAA 2 shutouts

I assume due to the really short training camp only guys likely to make the team will be there.

It depends. The last thing I saw from the AHL was a February 5 start date. The starting point for camp is probably the players they brought into the bubble. Add the Cotton brothers, Sellgren, Bokk, and a few others and I can see a 40 man camp. I don’t think we’ll see any of the Canadian Junior players, except maybe Jarvis since no one has seen him yet.
