OT: The M-Fing Food Thread

I like the idea of leaving the house in the am, and letting an appliance slowly cook your carnitas while you're away.

But the fact is, I NEVER ONCE used it that way. Maybe I'm just not that organized...or I just love PRESSURE. Who knows?

I'll just leave this here. Scientific fact-based outlook on these devices compared to other cooking methods. I tend to agree with this based on personal experience, but again I think slow cookers can add an extra bit of convenience, though pressure cookers are similar in that regard.

How many stews can you eat to actually make those things worthwhile?

I mean stews are bad in general. Let alone forcing yourself to eat them every week.

Yeah....most stews involve super mushy vegetables and/or chewy hunks of meat. Both are unappetizing to me.

I'll use my pressure cooker (or slow cooker theoretically) for beef cheeks or pulled pork with the intention of using the product in a taco.

our slow-cooker allows my wife and I to have home cooked lunches all week with usually an hour or two of effort tops on a Sunday eve. well worth the return. I accept that the final product may be inferior, but our options are often slow cooker or bust just due to available time. maybe I should convert some of my forum time to food prep...

having said all the above, one of my next purchases will likely be a pressure cooker. we love preparing Indian food and have been told a pressure cooker is required for best results.

You're being nice.
What you mean is, "Fuck your pretense ya bunch of emperors"

I like my instant pot pressure cooker. Steaming rice alone is far superior to purpose-made gadgets I've owned. There are a ton of one-pot type meals that are very tasty. ignore zeke.

I love it too...(but I think he was dissing slow cookers rather than pressure)

I use it for all sorts of things, including polenta and big batches of steel cut oats. #timesaver

Have you ever considered that you just can't cook?

Not to self: don't buy zeke a flight to Columbia.

It's funny you mention that....my first reaction to his obvious aneurysm was colombian sancocho

There's a great little colombian hole in the wall spot on Finch (right near Emery) that makes outstanding sancocho

I'm not always in the mood for it but nothing is more comforting to me than a good Colombian sancocho. The absolute epitome of comfort food right there for me.
