OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I think we see Vlad get another crack at 3b. He looks to be putting in the work. He may never be an elite defender but if he can improve his range a bit he should be passable. He’s got a rocket of an arm.

get some pitchers. Bauer would be great. I’m thinking we end up with an Odorizzi, Tanaka, Paxton type.

These 2 dorks delivered in 2 straight years . Give them some credit for taking over a team in complete rebuild mode and being close to contending now .

The Jays were a contender when they took over....it was not remotely in rebuild mode. It was in "retool and continue contending" mode. They tore it down (poorly) and now we're here.

Vlad at 3B is one of those super tough calls. Like, it would be awesome if we he could fit there for even a few more years, since it definitely increases his value overall and gives you more flexibility as a squad.

But on the flipside, especially with moving towards some win-now moves, how much leeway do we give him?

To me, that would be one of the advantages to bringing in a guy like la Stella - he's no star player, so if he only starts like 4 games a week, that's fine. So if you have someone like him on the roster, then you could do something like give Vlad 4 starts a week at 3B, and the other couple games at 1B/DH to give him some extra rest. And then la Stella would get those couple starts at 3B, plus a handful of games at 2B or even 1B to rest the other guys, and it works out.

Compared to signing a guy like Wong or Didi, which presumably are better overall and so won't want a platoon-y type of role, bringing in someone like that would almost certainly mean you need to move Vlad back to 1B full-time. But then again, they're better players, so certainly if you get the choice, I'll take the better option overall.

Not unless they get some pitching
Again, like i get that Shatkins has been accused of all sorts of things on this board but has stupidity ever been one of them? In what world would any front office commit 150M to a CF and then just not upgrade a rotation that was 17th in MLB? Tanaka, Odorizzi, Paxton, Walker and G Richards are FA, Sonny Gray is at least one name out there via trade and literally 5 teams are spending money at the moment. They will get one. Same applies to an INF. Semien, Simmons, Wong, Turner, Moustakas, Suarez, DiDi....

It wouldn't be the first time rogers only dipped their toe into the spending pool.

They are still $60 mill under their 2017/18 payroll. No excuse not to be top bidders for someone like Bauer. That is their #1 need and they have the money.

Why would you be so sure that they'll add the needed pieces? They've never done it before.

I'm confident that they'll add pitching, but no guarantees it isn't just more of the same flotsam to compete with Stripling, Thornton, Roark, Kay, Chatwood etc for a rotation spot.

I'd be stunned if its not Tanaka, Odorizzi, Paxton, as FA, or Gray, Castillo, Gonzales, Hendriks, Marquez via trade, i genuinely believe they are aiming higher than the Jaime Garcia lot. ( one of those dudes could be brought in as well, but not, the add)

Bauer is in his own category, a handful of dudes say we are still involved, and i think thats possible but you cant expect it.

I hope they get Castillo and Paxton.

I think a more likely duo might be something like Smyly and Shoemaker

half assing something is his motto

so yes

“Something like Smyly and Shoemaker” not necessarily those two specifically.

Shoemaker is a waste of time, having thrown less than 90 innings total in the past three years (high of 31.2 in 2019!) and only 77IP in 2017. You have to go back 5 years to anything resembling a full season. Even then he spent time on the DL.

Might as well bring back Dave Stieb.

don't remember the stories but yeah he's a known a-hole.

and springer is a dirty cheater.

oh well.
