91.9 sports had both Martin Leclerc (one of my fave sports journalists) and Dubois's father this morning regarding the entire Dubois situation.
Dubois's father confirmed that last summer, Dubois and Kekalainen had a meeting where Dubois expressed his desired to be traded. Kekalainen said he would do his best but would need him to be patient and that if he had a signed contract, it would be easier to do and that the best time to be traded would likely for next draft. Dubois agreed, since it made a lot of sense, and fully expected to play the entire year in Columbus. It was agreed between them that this would remain confidential.
Then, 2 days before the camp, someone let the media know that Dubois had requested a trade. At that point, Torts was not aware of Dubois's request at seems. So this complicated thing and left to this strange press conference were Dubois seemed evasive about the questions asked regarding his trade request. It was mostly a 22 years old kid who didn't know if he should be honest or lie to the press.
Martin Leclerc also added details. Apparently, Torts was furious. Not only he forces Dubois to tell all his teammates why he wanted out, Torts had all pictures of Dubois removed from the arena and expressively forbid any of his assistant coach to even talk to Dubois.
So technically, it's torts who blew a new one and decided on his own, to make this a big story to force his GM to get rid of him ASAP. Kekalainen & Dubois plan was to wait until next draft.
If this is all true, then Kekalainen either show some guts and get rid of Torts, or he shows no spine and keep him.

I don’t buy it, no way Jarmo allows Torts to say what he said in public (radio interviews, PC etc.) without being on the same page. That would be suicide by the coach, who’s looking for a new contract...

All the torts specific comments were made by Martin Leclerc. Eric Dubois tried not to get into too much details, espicially regarding Torts.
What Eric Dubois said, was that his son wasn't having fun anymore. There was something not right. PLD even build a new house and move into it recently, thinking that having his own place would help him unwind and feel better. So, I would believe that it's not just all on Torts, but you could clearly understand between the lines that Torts was a major factor, espicially when Eric mention how different and a player coach Maurice his and how his philosophy is lightyear different than what his son experience in columbus.
