2020/2021 NHL Trade Thread

Yeah that was a tough one.

My team of vets is competing hard this year and the opportunity for a championship is there so...

🏆 or bust

Deckie trades:

Connor Zary
Owen Tippett

to Iceman for:

Drake Batherson
Jack Rathbone
2021 4th Round Pick (Thunder)
2022 3rd Round Pick (Iceman)

It's a great haul but Kucherov? Lightning fan?
I mean, it's nice to hold players on your favourite team, but it's all about the championship. Kuch wasn't gonna help him win this year so out he goes. I think Markett vastly overpaid though, which made this deal a no brainer for Thunder.

Yeah looking at it again that is pretty lopsided. I'll defer to the others though.

Vastly overpaid? What am I missing here?

It's a deal that makes sense for both sides, but I prefer Markett's side of the deal. I mean Blake Wheeler's great, but he's already 34. And ROR is a 1st/2nd line tweener, plus a couple of late picks.

Kucherov's a 27-year-old superstar. I had to doublecheck the trade to see if I missed somebody, haha.

Kucherov is 2 years younger then O'Reilly and scored 15 pts more than ROR over the past 2 years. So if Kucherov is a superstar, so is ROR. ROR + a small add for Kucherov would have been fair, considering Kucherov will not produce a single point this year, which Thunder can't afford.

And remember, You're not getting a 27 yr old superstar, you're getting a 28 yr old coming off an injury that will probably hurt his effectiveness going forward. Then you give Wheeler, who's a high end forward and a couple of picks for roster filler? Yikes.

I guess it's just an amusing way to pass the time commenting on all these deals, so it's relatively harmless and all for the sake of fun.

But everytime I see somebody say "Whoa, X got the way better end of that deal", my mind just screams "Put your players where your mouth is!" LOL We probably have these guys on the block to a bunch of teams before deals go down and nobody else steps up at that point. But even afterward...

You think Kucherov's the stud here? Prove it and offer Markett more for him!

You think Wheeler and O'Reilly should have gotten a better return? Send that return to Thunder!

I mean, we all aren't in the same market for the same players. Wheeler and ROR don't make a lick of sense for my team and as much as Kucherov is awesome, he's 28 and coming off a potentially career altering surgery which doesn't fit in my team's timeline at this point. So yeah I'll offer my two cents, lol. Also trading for a guy that is out for the season in return for two big contributors is throwing in the towel, more or less, so a team at the top of the standings probably can't make that deal either.

A very reasonable point! LOL I guess I am just less opinionated...and it IS fun to see how people view some trades that go down.

Yeah, it's fun to debate these trades sometimes. I gave a slight edge to the Kucherov side, so when I heard "lopsided" i was just curious as to the thought process.

I'm not worried about Kucherov's surgery but it certainly could be a future problem. We all value players differently and teams have varying objectives, so it's interesting to see what people think.

It's an overpayment. As long as neither owner feel like they're walking bow-legged this morning it's fine.

I inquired on one of the pieces and felt it was too high for where my team was. ROR was an elite fantasy player based on TOI and faceoff wins when i had him so this should work out in the short term for thunder and long term the other way.

The iceman and tully deal is a nice one... not often i like a quantity for quality deal for both sides but here it is. Stamkos health will determine who wins this deal.
