2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

When I was in the navy we got yearly shots with a shot gun. We’d take our shirts off and March through the 2 docs, one on each side, they‘d put the guns on our shoulders and pull the triggers. Then we’d March away trying to show no pain. And they did hurt.

My wife, a nurse, had her second one last month. No side effects other than nagging....wait she’s had side effects for 20 years now.

Will be a while for me (48 yo). I work from home so it’s not a big deal. I do wish my oldest would go back to campus (App State) and my youngest back to school. Driving me nuts.

We got the polio vaccine with one of those military vaccine guns when I was about 10 ... they didn't hurt but holy crap, they looked scary.

It appears that Sports Illustrated’s website has at least partially gone behind a paywall. I tried to read the Monday Morning Quarterback column and got the first paragraph and hit the “Register now to continue reading SI” box. I guess the only surprise is that it took this long for it to happen.

I got a booster dropped onto a sugar cube. I thought it was for polio but maybe it was something different. I was probably about 10 or 11.

My smallpox vaccine scar is almost completely faded.

Yeah, the sugar cube thing was the Sabin polio vaccine. My sister and brother had that. I don't remember if I did...? I didn't have the Salk shot...

I had already had polio; at 6, summer of 48. I remember very little - but two things: the spinal tap, I was a scrawny kid but there were at least two big orderlies holding me down. It really hurt. And I was paralyzed for a time, bent at the waist. The polio was in my lower back and affected nerves and muscles down the hip joints and into the legs. It was a fairly mild case and with a very strong immune system (still thankfully) I started 2nd grade on time. I beat it with very little problem and very few effects. Until, in my 60's I discovered all those things I thought were just getting older were a litany of symptoms of PPS: Post Polio Sequelae/syndrome.

Yea, I remember the sophisticated sugar cube delivery mechanism. Whatever works!

Tough loss but Reimer was solid. Those next two could be spicy. Canes finally started taking exception late to the constant hacking and such that the bolts were throwing. You can see the point of that Atlantic article; when you’re hacking and whacking to get it by Vasi in close, you gotta get thru a mountain of equipment (and human).
