The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to see either of Fred or Hutch in the net in the playoffs at any point so I guess I'd feel better if Campbell could string together more than a couple starts.

I'd like a winger too but I don't think it's a waste of assets in any way to shore up the goaltending situation.

Honestly I think we need another legit good winger first.

Look at our depth. If a winger playing in our top-6 goes down, you pick whoever's playing best of Kerfoot, Thornton, Spezza, Mikheyev & Engvall to step into that role. And then you've also got Robertson, Anderson and even potentially Amirov to plug into the lineup.

Compare that to our options if Campbell goes down. You really think another winger should be the priority?

I'm actually okay with a Jack/Fred platoon, so long as Jack is starting and/or the hot hand plays.

That being the case, I actually prefer an impact winger more, especially since our offense has tended to be very inconsistent in the playoffs, and if our goalies are faltering, our better shot is to win 7-6 than hope for saves and win 3-2.

we have an 1-0 zamboni driver tho...

I think we see glasses move 3 or 4 assets including the likes of Hollowell, Hallander, Abramov as well as a couple 2nd/3rd round picks to grab a top-six forward, a defender, and a goaltending option. At least one of those positions will come with term.

If he goes for Hall and Ullmark, he has to add Freddie.

Even if they eat half of Hall that's 4 mill and Ullmark makes 2.6.

So Freddie and some prospects won't do it. But Freddie and Dermot would if they ate half of Ullmark.

I think with Dubas saying they want to see sandin play, Dermot is expendable

Then use some picks for an extra D in case of injury and we're good.

It depends. If Freddie is legit going to be out for the rest of the season, for whatever the real reason is, then you can just throw him on LTIR to make the room. And if you do move Fred, the team acquiring him only has to pay him about $250K in actual salary the rest of the way.

I think you can also assume that whatever players Dubas acquires will have 50% of their salary retained.

Would the Leafs be able to do an Evander Kane for Robertson, 2021 first-rounder, a 2022 third-rounder?
If San Jose keeps half of the cap hit, they get a third upgraded to a first in 2022.
LTIR Anderson before the trade and have another goalie ready to come in and take his minutes after the deadline.
Evander Kane at 3.5 million for the rest of his term, worth the extra first-rounder.
That would still give the Leafs some flexibility to bring in another defenseman like Savard or Oleksiak or another player of that ilk, as well as a 1B goalie.
Do you think this is an overpayment or not worth the cost?

My hope is we hang onto robertson and sandin.

Im holding out hope for Getzlaf for the remainder of the season.

I know Dubas said he'd trade top prospects, but I don't know how you trade Robertson. He is only 19 so contract still slides if he plays < 10 NHL games this year, so he'll make $800k for the next 3 years. With a flat cap, thats too valuable to give up IMO.

Also think its tough to commit to a player with term that makes anything more than $1-2 mill.

Love Getzlaf, but they basically already have 2 short pants Getzlafs. Need someone that can consistently play higher in the lineup.

Hall makes so much sense if they can get it done. Foligno is probably the next best option. Iafallo would be a good pickup too if you strike out on the top guys.

I have no idea what they are going to do about goalies, but given how cheap Lehner was at the deadline last year (2nd) if any good goalie is available they should make it happen.
