2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Yeah, I am still limited to no more than two recordings at the same time.

That’s the one thing keeping me from going back. So spoiled with dish and their 16 tuners. Plus it automatically records all prime time shows on the local channels and it doesn’t count against your DVR space. Holding out hope Bally’s will go to on demand/a la carte so I don’t have to get the spectrum streaming package just for hockey season.

The reality is that outside of Canes games, I rarely use my DVR anymore. So much of what I watch is on-demand these days.

Yea. But even the on demand has commercials they don’t let you FF through. I HATE commercials. Plus I record a lot of shows/documentaries to save and watch over the summer when there isn’t much on tv to watch.

Our Spectrum DVR can record 6 things at once. However, whole house DVR is no more so we can only watch what we record on the DVR tv.
Ugh...did you have to make that choice? I love whole house DVR and would never trade that for the ability to record more shows at once.

If you still have whole house DVR you must have had TWC prior. Don't disconnect your service because if you do you and reconnect later, you won't get whole house DVR back (Spectrum doesn't offer it). I believe though that means ACC Network is unavailable to you as well?

Anyhow we dabbled with ATT for 3 days and disconnected and reconnected cable. That cost us our whole house DVR. We had the 6 tuner DVR box and Whole house DVR with TWC, they gave us the 6 tuner box when our 2 tuner box crapped out. You probably can get Spectrum to swap out your 2 tuner DVR for a 6 tuner (you will lose everything you have recorded of course) just don't let them switch you off of the grandfathered TWC service or you will lose your whole house DVR.

Same here. YouTube TV's unlimited Cloud DRV is great. Had to go with NHL.tv and a VPN for Canes games, but still superior to cable.

FWIW ... AT&T TV lifted their limited on cloud "recorded" shows recently without changing the price. They used to cap it at 50 hours but now you can "record" as much as you want and not have to worry about deleting anything. That's one thing the streamers have over cable/DVRs all day, every day. Oh, and I'm not shilling for AT&T TV ... I only bring it up because it's pretty much the only streamer that still offers the Bally regional sports networks.

Does AT&T limit which streaming devices can run their app? This BS with Google playing hardball with RoKu is about to send me in another direction.

For cable yes. But with Dish and directv they allow you to hook up an external hd to increase space. With Directv, unfortunately, you lose the DVR hard drive space where the external Hd becomes your DVR. But with Dish I get 2000 hours on the DVR (whole home and mobile streaming) plus I bought a cheap 4 terabyte hard drive and can store an additional metric butt ton (yes, that is an official unit of measurement) of stuff. I use the external for movies and whole series I want to keep. I currently have 190 movies and the full GoT and Curb Your Enthusiasm series and I’ve used less than a terabyte.

Not currently, no ... but they do provide a stand-alone streaming box free of charge now. That set off a few alarm bells, but again ... the streaming game is all about being flexible. Devices are cheap.

Spent my day in the ER with a kidney stone issue. I had one last year that was massive (10 mm) so they had to do lithotripsy to break it apart. This one is 4 mm and should pass. I just have to deal with the pain until it does. Amazing how a tiny little thing hurts so damn much.
