Around The League - 2023-24 Regular Season

It’s never going to change while Jacobs, Bettman, Campbell, Daly and the current regime are in power. Time for younger blood to revitalize the league.

Along with Brian Burke still having a position of power & influence.

No other sport in North America recycles the same names as much as hockey does.

I would make the NHL 5x better almost overnight.

All the old fossils would fucking hate me to death.

Start with:

1- Outlaw fighting
2- Outlaw all checks to the head, intentional or not.
3- IIHF application of the rulebook. Not IIHF rules, but I've always loved how the IIHF referees will always call it the same.
4- Change the rules to promote offense.
5- Promote the stars over the teams. McDavid should be a fucking star, not just a really good player.

I always thought a player should be suspended for as long as the player he hurt is out. On cheap shots of course, accidents do happen.

Funniest part of all, the victims happened to be the leagues front and center US franchise sharing the location of the NHLs HQ...

The reality also, is 25-years ago no one would have blinked...categorize as a simple kerfuffle.
We’ve seen crap like that thousands of times over the decades

IMO, there's actually too much focus on the severity of the injury as is, not enough on the actions. Could've been a hell of a lot worse for Panarin.

Exactly. One day the random number generator will come up snake eyes and some poor guy will wind up in a wheel chair for life. And it’ll look like an innocuous hit from behind.

The only issue I have with that is, how do you clearly define intent? If a guy is trying to do an open ice hit, misses and ends up kneeing the other player, who is then out for the rest of the year, I don't think the suspension should be more than a few games. Shit happens.

But when it's really egregious shit like anything Tom Wilson does, then yeah, I don't mind.
