Poile is being quoted as believing we will start Monday night. I'd love to see some hockey this weekend but a few more days and practices and clearance from those clunkers are welcomed to me.
So the Bs and Caps would have 3 days off and the Canes and Preds would have 6? I guess that makes sense when you're dealing with the NHL.

I was thinking that as long as there was still seeding to be decided, the playoff schedule might not be announced. Certainly its not surprising that the NHL and NBC looked to lock in what they would consider a prime time matchup with Was and Bos ASAP so that NBC could advertise the heck out of it. I get that, I mean, those are 2 of NBC's primary teams, that was always going to get the best day and time slot, so why wait on announcing that.

If our Game 1 is going to end up on Monday night I would love to know that ASAP as I intentionally was holding up potential plans for this coming weekend thinking that Game 1 almost certainly would be sometime on Saturday or Sunday. I can't wait until Friday to find that out, I sort of really need to know when our game is going to be by tomorrow at the latest.

The only thing left to be decided in terms of seeding for Round 1 is the West with Vegas, Colorado and Minny. All 3 play tonight, and its possible if things fall a certain way that all 3 could be locked into their spots. But its more likely I think that the division title will not be decided until Avs-Kings game is over on Thursday night. If that really is what holds the announcement of the date of our first game that would really suck. Waiting until Friday to announce the date/time of our game is ridiculous.

The North Division via Le Brun has said today that the soonest a series would start is next Wednesday...and maybe only one series starting in the North a week from now with a second series starting next Thursday! So how in the heck do you even try to keep most of the first round ending around the same time periods? What a mess.

So they're going to wait to start the North until Calgary and Vancouver have finished playing out their meaningless games and by doing that make a potential mess of the schedules' of the teams that qualified? Oh this just keeps getting better!

The Kraken have their first player. They signed Luke Henman to an entry level deal. Name sound familiar? He was drafted by the Canes in 2018, right after Francis left. So while Waddell drafted him, Francis had scouted him. Also keep in mind that Tony McDonald would have run that draft for the Canes as Director of Amateur Scouting. Guess where he works now? Henman wasn’t signed by the deadline last year so he played an overage year in the Q.

Up next? Hudson Elynuik.

Considering that they still don't know if the Canadian teams will be able to play a cross border series when it comes to it, the longer they take the better. This league is a mess.

And personally, I'd be fine with the Canes' series not starting until Monday. Then I'd only miss Game 1 ... probably.

All this criticism of the league about scheduling the playoffs is driving me nuts. There are so many variables that come into play in the middle of a pandemic that no matter how they handle this, someone will complain.

It's complicated enough to make decisions for my small business and our 28 employees in this environment; I shudder to think about the challenge facing the NHL right now. I'm willing to cut the powers that be some slack on this issue.

Look ... I understand WHY the league is a mess (at least on the scheduling issue), but they're still a mess. As usual, their mountain of past bad decisions has limited their ability to make good, timely decisions in the moment. I'll cut them slack to the degree that the current moment is a challenge not 100% of their own making ... but the million little stupid things the NHL did over the last decade to make it worse is on them.

The road to the Stanley Cup goes through Denver. The Avs took the Presidents’ Trophy with a 5-1 win over the Kings. That brought them to 82 points, tied with Vegas but ahead on the regulation wins tiebreaker 35-30.

The Avs hot finish pushed the Canes to 3rd overall after a lot of local interest in Presidents Trophy curses and whatnot. Still, ridiculously good season for Carolina who wrapped up the regular season on pace for 117 points had they played the full schedule.

That also shook up the presumed playoff order in the West, with Vegas now having to face the Wild in a first round series while Colorado gets the much softer assignment with the Blues. I watched a few Knights/Wild games this season just for entertainment value. That series should be a real slugfest.

I am predicting a Wild upset in that series.
