They can let RNH walk, but now you need to find a good complimentary top 6 guy who will go to Edmonton. James Neal's contract is hilarious, maybe a buyout? Kassian's is hilarious, but they just signed that. They can let Barrie and Larsson walk...but their blueline is already bad and getting better players to Edmonton is going to be tough.

They're kind of locked in because they have minimal talent rolling into the organization on their ELC's and you can't get Spezza's to go play in Edmonton for league min.

Chia fucked the McDavid era up badly, and Holland wasn't the guy to fix Chia's hatchet job.
 
RNH is the quietest player around....if someone told me he retired two years ago, I'd believe them
 
Holland had a chance if he just stripped it to the bone from the very start. Keep McDrai and ELCs, move every single other player by any means necessary - including RNH and Nurse. No extensions to any of that crap on their roster. to free agents on more than 1yr deals.

They will go to silly creative depths of stupid to make sure they do something even dumber to get him help that isnt help. Character or some such.

prob is will mcdrai stay through a rebuild? Both could ask for trades if they had to wait most of their contract to maybe compete after the rebuild is done.
 
They could rebuild the franchise in a hurry by trading both of them, funnily enough.

But that only works if they have a good scouting department, which they certainly do not.

That’s the thing. Maybe Holland could’ve sold them on a rebuild if he’d started the process as soon as he arrived.

But now Holland’s flushed another two seasons of their careers down the toilet with nothing to show for it, the team’s prospect pool is as mediocre as ever, and the cap situation’s a bigger mess than when Holland arrived.

Tough to turn around and try to pitch them on a rebuild now. And even tougher to pitch that there’s some plan that’s going to transform this group into anything other than a mediocre bubble team for the foreseeable future.

To complicate matters. Both Connor and Leon have 1 year left on their deals where they can be traded anywhere. NMC's kick in on July 1 2022. So have one more mediocre years with no playoff success and then you start running the risk of one of them demanding a trade and being able to dictate terms on where they're willing to go. Oh, Nashville offered 10 1sts for Leon, but he hates country music? Tough, guess you're taking 2 1sts and a couple B prospects from LAK.

Chia did such a fucking terrible job.

Neal makes more than Eberle & Taylor Hall would have stayed for long term money. They would have the best top 6 in hockey.
