I was the opposite of that kid...I would be pls drop a fraction of that crazy money on a better tv and the occasional ticket so I can get a better look at the Habs.
You can over or under-achieve, but basically, you are what you are.

Buy when your ability cant surpass bottom of the barrel house league as 12-13 year olds ........... your dream is over

For the most part, yeah.
But I played with Marco Scandella growing up. He was way better than everyone else, but in hindsight, we weren't at a level that had future NHLers written on us. There isn't a single other player I ever played with that even made it to Midget AAA, let alone the Q, or pro level.
I think worm was the same thing with Curtis Glencross.

Yeah, from my first day of organized hockey to my last I can't remember ever thinking that I was ever going to play in the NHL or that what I was doing was getting me, my teammates or any of my opponents even one inch closer to it. Even at 7 years old I was under no illusions.
Oh, and I hated the hours. To me, hockey was something that got played on Saturday night at 8pm, not Saturday morning at 8am. The closest I ever got to the NHL were the 6am practices at the Leaside Arena in Toronto where Frank and Pete Mahovlich's father had a kiosk where he sharpened everyone's skates.
There's a d-man on my son's team who could possibly play NCAA Division 1. He's already 6'1'' and 180 lbs (at age 13) and projects to be about 6'5", skates well and shoots well, and his dad played in college too. But that's probably it. Some could play D-3 depending on the school (my son included . . . maybe) but that's about it. But they all have a (very expensive) blast doing it.
I do. My hockey son. Hockey is way more expensive. Not even close.
If the family is loaded its not an issue
Mainly hard work working middle class families whose dreams will never be met and owe money

If you live in this part of the U.S. you don’t need to travel too far to play high quality tournaments or get very good coaching. Maybe you do in the frozen tundra but not here. So yeah, you’re wrong.
D-3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships, only D-1 and even then, it’s not likely to be a full free ride.
