Okay, Nostradamus. Berrios was the next best option after Scherzer, there were always going to be multiple offers, especially after the Padres failed to get Max. He may also have gone for a similar price in the off-season as there are usually more teams bidding, there's no way of knowing for sure. Although we do know for sure the price wouldn't be "half" because that's absurd.They could have also acquired JA Happ for almost nothing and then got 1 year of Berrios for half the price in the off-season.
Sure the Jays could have got Happ or Lester for next to nothing, but the whole point was to add a pitcher who doesn't suck.
It's too early to call Martin a bust, but he is heading down that path and has definitely lost value since draft day.
