I think he played on a USHL team that was dominate. He hasn't faced stiff competition yet, lets see how he does against Boston college , Northeastern, Quinnipac etc

I'm glad that Ferrell's producing at Harvard, it's definitely better that he puts up numbers than not.
But ultimately, what does it tell me? Little to nothing. If he was putting up these numbers while on any of the powerhouse teams, I'd be much more interested.
Realistically, he needs to be in Laval by the end of the season. He needs a real step up in competition beyond Ivy Leaguers.

It would be a red flag if the production wasn't there, but it's not a gage of success that it is. Any chance he can make the US team?
You know who dominates against poor competition? Good players.

Nope. He's 20 years old and isn't eligible this year.
He wasn't invited to their camp last year, for what it's worth.

No, it's not a question of he can "never win" with some.
I have measured expectations because I don't know how his skillset translates to pro hockey. I have the same measured expectations with Norlinder and Struble. I want to see incremental improvements, and that comes with real improvements in competition. Going from the USHL to Harvard is a marginal improvement at best, the level of play there isn't great.
Am I happy he's putting up numbers? Sure. But I also have to note that, if he was in a real program last year, he would have been in the NCAA and not the USHL and this would have been his second year in College instead of his first.

Fuck no. He can't be playing his early 20s in Harvard. I'd be okay with it if he was at North Dakota, BU, Boston College, Michigan, UMass, Minnesota, etc, but he's not.
If he's willing to transfer for next season, fine. If not, he needs to go to Laval / Trois-Rivière and play.

You know who also dominates against poor competition? Players who are skilled, but choose to play the role of a big fish in a small pond.
There are overagers in Junior every year, especially the Q, who are dominant. Last year's MVP from the Q is in the ECHL right now and there's no NHL potential in him.

Wayne Gretzky scored more points against the Canucks than any other team he played against. Partly this was because when he was an Oiler he was in the same division as the Canucks and played against them a lot but mostly it's because the Canucks were garbage.

Granted Harvard isn’t as strong a program, however, if he can dominate at the same level that adds credence to signing Farrell to a contract and seeing how it plays out in Laval - unless he transfers to BC or BU program (which rarely if ever happens), and allowing some more development time in NCAA
As for Harvard hockey, just keep in mind Adam Fox & Alex Kilorn both were developed over 4-full years in that system - there been some really good grads out of that hockey program but all stayed the entire length to develop, which IMO was the biggest aspect which led to Louis Leblanc’s failure. He needed to spend a full 4-years like Kilorn to get stronger & faster via less game playing & more training
