GDT #21: 24/11/21 - Cali

Sad I missed this one. Just based on the posts in this thread Nick Ritchie had some hilarious moments. I find his comedic approach to playing hockey pairs amazingly well with watching the Leafs take violent shits on the NHL. I'm having the most fun I've ever had watching the Leafs play this year and tbh he is a big part of that.

He shot a puck from the slot into the corner.

he had a chance in tight with time and space and shot it right at quick’s (who was on his stomach) foot.

took a very Ritchie penalty late for no reason.

Canes heavily outplay the Kraken, but can't score.

Tie game with 3 minutes left.

Enter Fred.

Ahhh, this clip brings me back to that magical time when, if a shot was even slightly screened, our goalie couldn’t possibly be expected to make any effort to track the puck or make such an impossible save.

That was always the biggest complaint with Fred that people seem to miss. Even playing well during his time here he had that tendency to consistently let in bad goals at the worst times

Yeah and the body language is right. It’s always painfully obvious that he believes that nothing is ever his fault.

Last night’s game is pretty much the classic Fred performance. Played well enough on the whole to avoid blame, and has plausible deniability on the winner, since so many people completely excuse any goal that was screened at all.

But in reality, he choked when it mattered and lost them that game. And he’ll keep on doing that.

screen or not if he was in position that just hits him

977 points now for Spezza. Definitely within the realm of possibility they get him to 1000 this season.

Though I guess there’s no rush, since he’s probably got another decade of playing time left in him somehow.
