OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

His poor underpants during the Carlo Colaiacovo era.

But he also thought Devon Travis was as good as Mookie Betts.

To be fair....before he broke, Travis was looking a hell of a lot like a 4+ war 2B. His first 160 MLB games were 4.7 WAR.

In 2015, Travis' WAR/650 was 6.0, and Mookie's was 4.8. So I kind of get that one when you throw a pinch of homer in there. Then Devo broke and Mookie went off for 31 WAR over the next 4 years...but it wasn't a crazy argument in 2015.

Shit, Devo breaking was a fairly big reason that contending team didn't get over the hump.

Mookie had better stats in the minors and broke out in the majors younger. In his age 21 season, Mookie went from AA to MLB and put up 1.8 WAR in just 213 PA. Travis was still figuring out low A at that age. Not remotely comparable prospects. He was obviously the better player, and the non homers knew so. Better approach, better defense and did it 2 years earlier than Travis did. Then the pop came and the comparison looked foolish. Travis was never close to Mookie.

Oh, if you remember, I was warning about the pending Boston contending team with the whole bag of kids that went on to win a world series. Back when I was screaming about Shatkins not doing enough to take advantage of our window and a general lull in the ALE with Boston and the Yankees both being bad/mediocre at the same time.

So yeah, I'm not saying Zeke was right, or even close to it, ever on this topic...I'm just saying that if you squinted in 2015 there was an argument to be made that didn't look hilarious. Obviously in 2021 it's the height of hilarity.

Meh, when Zeke tried to argue that whatever the Jays younger core was at the time something like Travis/Pillar/? > Betts/Bogaerts/Bradley/Benitendi I was right there telling him how wrong he was because those kids were about ready to become better than anything we had, except Donaldson I guess.

Stroman and Travis got wrecked by injuries unfortunately.

Bradley and Pillar ended up with identical careers though.

And Osuna is better than Beni.

I think there will be better value/results in the secondary pitching market. Gray/Rodon type that isn’t getting the hype of Gausman/ Ray.

I think trades might be better than some of the rumoured dollars being thrown around. 6 years for Gausman? No thanks.

I hadn't seen 6, but saw 5 for Gausman, and yeah, that scares me. Adding the full year of Berrios, and I'm happy with just one of the tier 2 options
