GDT: Canes @ Canucks 12/12 10:00

I fell asleep during the first intermission and woke up with about 5 minutes to go in the 2nd. We went to bed after the period ended.

No Aho, no scoring punch? Necas goal aside. I fell asleep & woke up to find that I owed Mike 2 cases of San Miguel. Double Dang. Vancouver is a different team under Boudreau's coaching. They come to Raleigh to play on January 15, so the Hurricanes get the chance to pay them back. Maybe I should go double or nothing on the beer?

Stayed up for this one, unfortunately. We looked good at the start and at the end, but in-between left a lot to be desired. A couple of miscues made the difference, but the real issue is that we've got to get somebody other than Aho to score with some regularity - Svech, I'm especially talking to you. Is Staal injured? Even when he's not scoring, he usually contributes to our team's performance, but he seems like a shell of his normal self to me.

Yeah ... this has been going on for a while now. Other than a few isolated games here and there, Carolina's secondary scoring just isn't getting enough done. And forget Svech, since he's a PRIMARY scorer who isn't pulling his weight over the last month. Yeah, I know Brindy's correct that the quality of the play should dictate how you evaluate the team .... BUT .... the goal is seriously contending right now and the offense is starting to be a real problem. Having Aho and DeAngelo out at the same time clearly ain't helping you score goals, but this team should 100% have enough scoring left to notch more than one goal against a crappy 1 line team with that shambles of a D corps.

This game was probably the end of the road for Chatfield and Lajoie, at least for now. Pesce and TDA are expected to meet the team in Minnesota today. The both acquitted themselves well, especially Chatfield. Even with the full compliment of dmen, we might still see Cole on the top pair. For whatever reason, and maybe it was a relapse of the illness that he dealt with earlier, Bear only played 9:30 last night.

On Bear ... apparently what's running through the roster right now is a flu-like thing, and Bear wasn't 100% yet coming back from Covid when he got sick. So, yeah ... that guy's prolly playing on half a lung at this point. If Pesce and DeAngelo are more fit coming back, we might see Bear take a night or two off to get his fitness level back a bit. That's the thing with the Covid protocol ... until the guys actually get back to the routine, you really don't know what impact the virus had, if any.

Oh and I forgot to mention this Mike had a call I'll give full props.
Naughty by Necas..
As much grief as I give him for not getting players nor cities right I have to give props also.

Even for how many gears Svech is known to have, he was playing at a couple higher than that last night... that boy was Everywhere.... he just didn't get rewarded for it.

It will be interesting to see how much rust Pesce and TDA have to knock off too. It’s not like they’re playing some schlubby team either, the Wild are tied with the Canes on points and are 6th in points %.

There's no rest for the weary.

Yeah but IIRC Bear was symptomatic. where as Pesce and TDA were not. Hopefully that's good news.. but yeah they'll have some rust..

Agreed ... but he gets paid to convert that stuff into actual production. Hopefully he'll get on a roll here shortly, but this is starting to smack of last season a bit too much for my tastes.
