Just as Stevie Y wasn’t the right GM to take TBay over the finish line, the same IMO holds true for Leafs. Dubas isn’t “that GM”

Leon and CMD were beasts this playoffs and they made a push
Leafs have no excuse to not a win a round after facing inferior teams and having TB by the nuts

Stevie Y repeatedly tried & even overpaid to acquire grit / character players and failed over & over. That just isn’t his forte, inversely to Brisebois, but he’s very apt at identifying high end skill, not convinced Brisebois is.
All GMs have their strengths & weaknesses, for vast majority it’s actually quite glaring, and it’s also normal.
Dubas like Stevie Y is a “skills guy”, he doesn’t seem to have that inner knack at grit / character types & goalies, or maybe he just doesn’t care to because he doesn’t believe in it.

Been thinking more about where Petry might land.
Flyers have $5M cap space with 18-roster spots filled (5-more players to max out at 23), and they’re expected to be in a bidding war for Gaudreau should he hit market and/or Kadri, meaning they need to offload big time cap space (even w offseason 10% overage allowed), starting with JVRs $7M.
Sanheim will be entering his UFA season ($4.675M AAV), have believe there’s a way for a deal that can happen involving Petry, Sanheim & JVR

Because Draisaitl had just as good a season as Matthews on a weaker team and McDavid had a better season than Matthews on that same weaker team. But the Oilers don't drive TV ratings like the Leafs so this award "needed" to go to Matthews. It's not about who is the best but merely what's best for the bottom line.
Your boys have to produce thats it , regardless who your GM is
If your core produces to its potential and lose thats fine

Sure he could of tweaked the roster a bit but I guarantee you , if their core did their job they would have won 3 first round series for sure

Playoffs are literally the only thing that matters so if playoffs don't mean shit in Hart voting then the Hart itself is bullshit. In fact, these individual awards only exist as a feeble attempt to make what we all know is a largely meaningless regular season more relevant. Aside from that they serve no purpose whatsoever. You can give Matthews the Hart and call him the MVP, but anyone who watched the playoffs knows that's a lie.

Because McDavid out-produced him while playing for a weaker team. Give Matthews the Rocket Richard for scoring the most goals but he's no MVP. Not in any league that includes McDavid. McDavid is everybody's daddy right now.

The whole premise is Habs re-up Sanheim…. who’s about to enter his prime for Dman @ 26, and Philly not being able to absorb his next deal
JVR is simply a bad contract to get that carrot (Sanheim)
