The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

"sammy always has hot starts like this"

facts: nope, never actually.
Not what I said.

I shared his monthly splits throughout his career. He has started off well and crumbled late; I would classify this as a fact. I made a joke about him sucking ass later in the year. That's about as far as I went to "predicting" the what the future holds for him this year. But overall I am encouraged that he has been able to put together hot stretches.

take it easy on presty he needs to try and find a way to prepare for possible Sammy success that he had not contemplated as possible preseason. I'm actually glad he's already going through the process this early on.

I shared his monthly splits to show a clear trend in his 3 year career. This is all I did. Sensitive Leafs fans are now trying to form an opinion for me that I haven't shared. I LIKE that Samsonov has put together hot early starts. I LIKE that Matt Murray was one of the best goalies in hockey last year before his final 2 games. These are good things. Kyle shot for the stars and aimed for goalies that could provide the Leafs with heaters.

ty. The trend is the trend is the trend.

But he has been a dominant goalie in the early months of nearly every season. That is encouraging and makes him a great candidate to get a "change of scenery" boost to possibly put together a full season of quality play!

Sorry Presto, stay in your lane.

we dig your advanced math when it comes to credit card churning, stocks, sports betting, and Covid vaccine effectiveness but clearly you need a PhD to discuss goaltending intelligently

But my day job required me to evaluate dataset trends that are way more complex than basic save percentage progression throughout a hockey season :(

I'M QUALIFIED!!!!!

You're not this dense are you? By playing really well in spurts? .915+ over 10-15 game stretches? He has had a whole whack of those stretches throughout his career, something that guys like Kallgren do not have. Very encouraging because it shows he has the ability and his horrendous, catastrophic slumps where he spirals out of control at about the midway point of the season are likely largely mental, which can be grown out of. Toronto is a good market for a guy like him maybe. We're easy on goalies.

Anyway.. Was just pointing out an obvious trend in his 4 year career. My sincerest apologies. Won't happen again.
Maybe relax a little. I don’t think his backup stats broken by month on a different team in a total of one season’s games are all that informative to his situation now. Just my view, sorry. But thank you for posting it, and keep that up.

And I have a hard time calling it a heater when the player only plays sporadically, but I can take that up with the semantics bureau.

Yes the stats that show his stats trending down throughout each season he has played don't actually mean that his stats have trended down in each season he has played. True. If you're still disagreeing with any point I have made, then this is what you believe because it is the only thing I've stated and it is a fact. So you're disagreeing with a fact.

I might provide a lesson on data analysis and mathematics at some point. I think I've figured out the issue here. Doing what I do for a living, I sometimes forget that many people don't have anything above 7th grade knowledge on this subject. It's no one's fault.
There's nothing to know! He put up whatever numbers he put up in a backup role, in limited irregular appearances, on another team, while getting his feet wet in the league. Either you care about what those stats look like broken up by month now that he's starting for the Leafs, or you don't give a shit.

… with bad nerdies.

the offseason bottom 6 additions have been awful. But I have to see how they performed in October 2021, 2020 and 2019 to know for sure.

For Jarny you can look at the last couple seasons! He has been trending down and only getting older!

And I would not judge Sammy harshly this year because of how he has trended in each season thus far in his career tho! That wasn't my point! I was just pointing out how he has trended in prior seasons! There was no statement made other than posting a fact! And maybe theorizing that it could be a mental thing and not at all related to ability (which is better than the alternative), but that part was just a theory!
